We report on the CR38IVES Summer Networking Event in?Marlow last week, and chat ‘On The Couch’ with Performing Arts Teacher & Author CAROLYN MAYLING, who has quite a story to tell! ?

And we shine the CR38IVES spotlight on Video Editor &?Content Creator ISAAC HARVEY MBE and the?amazing team of rollerbladers and wheelchair?users who skated all the way to Paris for the Paralympic Games!???

Summer is a time to meet up with friends old and new, and to have some fun. So, CR38IVES decided to hold?its first in-person Summer Networking Event this year!

CR38IVES is a networking group which meets once a month on zoom.? But hey, no-one wants to sit indoors when the sun is shining, do they??

Last?Friday was one of England's sunny summer days - which was lucky, as the breakout groups at the networking event?could sit outside in the fresh air while getting to know each other.??

The Crowne Plaza in Marlow in Buckinghamshire was also?the scene?of bright ideas and brilliant connections when teams had to stretch their collective brains and?come up with creative and inventive uses for paper clips - other than for clipping paper!? What emerged was a surprisingly long list - and someone even mentioned that a paper clip could?be used as a murder weapon!? Who knew??

After a day of talking and fun, the networking was done!? We wrapped up with the Creative Director of Redroofs School for the Performing Arts Carolyn Mayling speaking about her memoir ‘The Future Is Rosie’. The book?describes the heartbreak of losing a child, and how Carolyn and her family dealt with unimaginable loss - and learned to live again.

Carolyn set up a charity called Rosie's Rainbow Fund to help bring some fun into the lives of hospitalised children, and to support their traumatised and grieving parents.

Film Producer Richard Holmes also demonstrated the VOXBOX, which he invented during the Covid Lockdown.? It's an amazing portable sound studio that folds up flat, and should become standard field equipment for Radio and TV Reporters and Voiceover Artists, as well as for Podcasters who don’t want to dish out thousands for a home sound studio!?

Carolyn’s family has been running the Redroofs School for the Performing Arts since 1947, and she’s helped launch the careers of many Oscar and BAFTA winners.?

After losing her daughter Rosie to vasculitis, a rare auto-immune disease, Carolyn set up ROSIE’S RAINBOW FUND to help hospitalised children and their parents during their most traumatic and stressful times, as well as to provide support for bereaved families.

After going through even more heartbreak and stressful times in the years that followed Rosie's death, Carolyn wrote a memoir called ‘The Future Is Rosie'. 6th HORSHAM FILM FESTIVAL - The 2024 winners!

The 6th Horsham Film Festival took place last week, with three nights of short film screenings in the Everyman Cinema in Horsham, West Sussex - culminating in the Awards Ceremony on Friday night.

The founder of the festival, Geoff Cockwill of Silvertip Films , says it was definitely the best festival yet!? "There were great films entered, a sold-out awards night, great company, and a brilliant atmosphere," he says.

And the winners are: Best Drama - The Edenbound by Andrew McGee, Best Student Drama - Leave Me by George Levy, Best Documentary - Grandad's Workshop by Will Chidlow, Best Student Documentary - Dissecting Dyslexia by Sparks Hove, Best Animation - Skrugg And The Fireflies by Laura Page, Best Student Comedy - Undercurrent by Daniel Booroff, Best Student Your District - Duplicity by Henry Medhurst, Best Your District - The Lost Legend by Pigeon Productions.

WHEELING INTO PARIS!

What a triumphant end to a challenge that got off to a disappointing start...

Video Editor & Content Creator Isaac Harvey MBE and his team of rollerbladers and wheelchair users planned to skate all the way from Brighton to Paris in time for the beginning of the Paralympic Games.

The first day was a wipe-out - literally!? Heavy rain prevented them from setting off, as it was too dangerous to skate on wet and slippery roads.?? The team skipped the first stage and took a train to Newhaven, setting off from there the next day on their planned route to Paris.?

By this time, the Wheels and Wheelchair's skating challenge had caught media attention, and on the?third day of skating?the team was?contacted by the International Paralympic Committee's YouTube channel to inform them that they'd be filming their arrival in Paris!

"It was a 'Mum, we made it!' moment," Isaac says.?"Arriving at the Stade de France was an epic milestone for our community, and I couldn't be prouder.??Even with the most pain I had ever felt, it was worth it just for that?one moment!"

The 121-mile journey was an adventure that?brought together 35 skaters, five?wheelchair users, and eight?volunteer support crew, creating an incredible display of camaraderie and community spirit.

As President of Wheels and Wheelchairs, Isaac paid tribute to the team with these inspiring words: "From the rolling hills to the bustling streets, we pushed ourselves beyond our limits -and, together, achieved something truly remarkable."
