A 3 minute read.
3 things. A learning, a win and a thank you.
Let's see where this takes us....
A lesson. ??
You can’t do it all.
As much as I would like to believe the opposite is true, this week I’ve had to admit defeat.?
That’s not to say you can’t do it all eventually. But life is a marathon not a sprint.?
Unrealistic deadlines don’t help anyone and if I’ve learned anything over the last few years it’s that the most important things to prioritise, especially after a period of intensity, are rest and recovery.?
The glamour of international travel quickly faded into a diary packed with back to back Microsoft Teams meetings and rather than push through the fatigue and brain fog, I made a decision to take it easy.
There were emails to send, videos to shoot, chapters to write. But I decided to let it all wait.
The voice in my head was screaming at me to keep my foot on the gas and push through. But my body was whispering to me to resist.?
I’m pleased to say I listened to my body.
An important lesson.?
A win. ??
Not all social media content is created equal. In fact, tiny tweaks to the way things are edited can have a massive impact on views and audience retention. Why else would people spend hours watching cat videos?!?

I’m really proud of what we’ve done with the podcast and the youtube channel over the past 18 months but it definitely feels like it’s time to take things to the next level.??
Since Jessica left to pursue her dream job in television the team and I have been editing things? in house. The quality has been respectable but none of us are pros.?
This week I had a conversation that I hope will move the needle. I was introduced to a fantastic editor who should be joining us in the next couple of weeks.?
I’m really looking forward to seeing what he comes up with to help get our content in the hands of even more people.
An exciting win.?
A thank you. ??
I don’t think of myself as a train spotter but a slow week led to a slow weekend and yesterday we stepped back in time and climbed aboard a fabulous steam locomotive on the North Yorkshire? Moors Railway.?
The journey from Levisham to Grosmont was only 50 minutes but it was glorious to swap the normal rush of life for the slow chug through some of the UK’s most beautiful countryside. If it’s good enough for Harry Potter it’s good enough for me!?
Not only is this little stretch of railway an amazing story of how purpose can galvanise a community to come together around a common cause. It’s also a great example of the power of switching off and tuning in.?
It was really wonderful to sit next to my daughter and play noughts and crosses and hangman as the world slowly passed by the window. Everyone we met was friendly and chatty and for a few hours human connection and presence seemed to trump screentime and likes.??
Thank you to the volunteers and staff of NYMR for sharing your story and offering an antidote to life in the fast lane.
I hope this was useful in some way.

1 个月All 3 points, for me, are totally point on point. When I was on the road 225 days a year...about every 6 months I would take a day off, stay in bed....and found I would sleep about 24 hours over the two nights and the day. I LOVE and miss the old steam trains, the sounds and the whole experience...now I am feeling my age...finally, re technology i am in awe of speakers who can do it all: for me, like you..bring in the PRO. Loved this week's thoughts.
