Sunbeam

Chapter 2 of "the Clear White Light of Purpose"

You

Brighten my darkest day

You

Melt my sorrows clean away

You

Warm my heart

And cause my sadness to part

You

Give me hope

When I thought all hope had gone

You

Encourage me

Inspire me

Soothe and move me

You

Light my path

And make my way clear

To everything my heart holds dear

You

And you alone

Are taking me home

By way of explanation

If you read my January installment of "The Clear White Light of Purpose", you've probably grasped the plot. Each month, a painting and a poem, inspired by places I visit that month, all on the subject of light and specifically as a metaphor for purpose, which has been my professional obsession for the last thirty years or so.

So, whilst the poem "Sunbeam" could easily be a love story or the description of a faith journey, I hope it will also prompt contemplation on the nature of purpose.

At the end of the day, poetry, like all art, is in the eye of the beholder. So, rather than explain what it means to me, I'd rather that you, the reader, will allow it to speak in whatever way it must - to you.
