The sun warmed me up today
I feel positive about the future. That's what optimism is to me so I guess I'm am optimist. Though in the middle of the Dunedin winter when it's been raining for at least a week the optimist can go into hiding. Perhaps it's Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a lack of Vitamin D or is it just that most years my family and I are on the count-down to an overseas holiday. I think it's probably a combo.
Today the sun came out and as per usual I managed to catch the first glimpses early in the day from somewhere scenic but typically difficult to reach.
Despite the terrible pain in my hands from the biting cold (yes that's snow on the ground) the sunrise was as majestic as it gets. I made a mental note, wear the Gore Iridium gloves tomorrow. I get excited about technical clothing, but I am easily excited. I am a sucker for some hydrophilic/phobic fibres woven into a ultralight-weight trail-specific garment, just ask Visa. Jokes aside, a fantastic start to the day at the top of Flagstaff.

Ocasionally I think about giving up coffee, but I can never come up with a good reason and it's a great driver for me and today was no exception. The thought of a good americano with cream is just too appealing in the early hours of the morning. Today was no exception and with the sun pouring in the rear of our house it was the stuff of dreams.
Shae my shiny-coated retriever-cross completely agrees that sitting in the morning sun is fantastic. Seeing the sun for more that 10 minutes today more than just warmed the house, it warmed my perspective and it's all about perspective. I tell my wife that "a persons' perspective is their reality" which isn't always the right thing to say in the middle of a discussion where we potentially disagree but I think it's pretty truthful. You have to consider biases, circumstances and ultimately peoples' perspectives when you truely want to understand their motives and thinking.
The emergence of the sun has truely made my day, but made me think a bit more about why. Is it just that I need to take a multivitamin, a holiday or a shot of serotonin.

2 年I certainly notice a better mood from all our homes inhabitants if there's a bit of winter sun to appreciate. Definitely room for coffee in the best routines!
