Sun Tzu and the Art of ... Transition?

The Sun Tzu's insights and guidance on the "Art of War" are legendary.

Their applicability to military art and science over the ages is nearly unimaginable.

People have considered and applied them across innumerable social domains with stunning (although not universal) success.

As I ponder my "Saturday Morning Coffee Thoughts" today, I wondered how his teachings might apply to military career transition. Guess what? Much of them apply!

The attached graphics display what I consider to be the most relevant applications.

Be well. Keep up the fire!

Thank you William E. "Bill" Kieffer for providing a Saturday cup of conversation. I believe 'a' significant challenge during the military to civilian transition is gaining a better understanding of words and what they mean. For example a "new join process" in the Marine Corps is similar to "onboarding" in the private sector. I love how you compiled words, in a way, that relates to military transition and can be applied to all industries. Semper Fi!

Excellent morning thought! At UC, I incorporate Sun Tzu's Art of War into our Organizational Behavior course. Nuggets for more discussion: Self-Awareness - "Know yourself and you will win all battles." Coaching, Mentoring, Training, Teaching - "Treat your men as you would your own beloved sons. And they will follow you into the deepest valley." Self-Development/Self-Actualization - "He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared." Get After It!
