When I was successfully operated by Mohs method in Amsterdam last week, I remembered famous Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen song of Baz Luhrmann from 1990s
During my childhood's summer holidays, I recall that we wanted to be suntanned ?? when we are back to school in September, that's why we maximised the sun exposure despite of the parents' warnings. I don't remember we used any protection but I do remember painful ?? sunburns ??
Sun exposure during childhood and adolescence has been shown to greatly impact an individual’s lifetime risk of developing skin cancer. Intense sun exposure in the first 10 years of life has been shown to nearly double the lifetime risk of melanoma. Childhood and adolescent (intermittent and non-occupational) sun exposure increases the risk of basal cell carcinoma (BCC).
Thank God BCC is not a fatal cancer type yet distracting enough. Having a small scare of my face is an excellent excuse to have a facelift in next a couple of years to reverse the signs of aging ??
We cannot blame The Sun which is the star at the center of the Solar System. It is a massive, hot ball of plasma, inflated and heated by energy produced by nuclear fusion reactions in its core. It radiates light and heat, or solar energy, which makes it possible for life to exist on Earth. Plants need sunlight to grow. Animals, including humans, need plants for food and the oxygen they produce. Without heat from the sun, Earth would freeze.
Solar energy is created by nuclear fusion that takes place in the sun. Fusion occurs when protons of hydrogen atoms violently collide in the sun's core and fuse to create a helium atom. This process, known as a PP (proton-proton) chain reaction, emits an enormous amount of energy.
Sunlight energy that reaches the ground is around 4% ultraviolet, 43% visible light, and 53% infrared. Solar panels mostly convert visible light into electrical energy, and they also can make use of almost half the infrared energy. But solar panels only use a small portion of ultraviolet.
Solar UV radiation (UVR) exposure, particularly ultraviolet B (UVB), is the mostly significant environmental risk factor for the occurrence and progress of basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Both cumulative and intermittent high-grade UVR exposure could promote the uncontrolled replication of skin cells.
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience - Baz Luhrmann
Climbing the Accountability Ladder Up
Rung 8 | Implement Solutions
The top rung stands for deciding to solve the issue. The summit of accountability
Here, you are responsible for your actions and a role model for others. You lead by example, demonstrating the power of accountability and inspiring those around you.
Those truly accountable acknowledge the problem, own their part, find a solution, and declare, "I am on it," putting that solution into action.

You have done the hard work, you have put your ego to the side, admitted accountability, embraced the feelings and consequences that come with making mistakes and you have generated a way forward. Now all you need to do, is take action
Now, it’s time to act.
There’s no more time to procrastinate.?
That’s what climbing to the top of the accountability ladder means.?
Forget about finding solutions; it’s time to implement those plans.
Think of a leader who sees a project falling behind schedule.
Instead of waiting for someone else to fix it, they step in, organize a team meeting, and set clear deadlines to ensure the project finishes on time.
Book Bits
Reading List of May 2024
?? This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate [2021] The book, as you might guess from its subtitle “capitalism versus the climate,” focuses on how our current economic system and those who cling to it impede progress on climate change, and it makes the case for the fact that if we’re going to avoid disaster, we need to make radical changes. Even our most progressive leaders are still searching for a way we can have our cake (the earth) and eat it (fossil fuel profits) too, but it’s just not going to work.
?? The Third Plate: Field Notes on the Future of Food [2014] Dan Barber explores the current state of food production and consumption, offering a vision of a more sustainable and delicious future. The author advocates for a food system that prioritizes soil health, biodiversity, and flavor over convenience and profit. The idea that there is a connection between taste and sustainability is one of the most thought-provoking ideas in the book. What makes it such an interesting idea is when you look at how people around the world and in particular in developed countries spend their money taste plays a huge role in what we eat, but it’s generally focused on the how exclusive a dish is or the uniqueness of the animal, not on how sustainable it is.
?? Radical Respect: How to Work Together Better [2024] watch Kim Scott's (who is the author of the revolutionary New York Times bestseller Radical Candor) first hand into here. The Radical Respect framework shows you how to distinguish between these problems, so you can match the right solution to each problem. Very good connections to Levent Türk (??Mr.BTFA??) 's BTFA.
?? Six Degrees: Our Future on a Hotter Planet [2009] by Mark Lynas is a thought-provoking exploration of the potential consequences of global warming. The author presents a compelling argument for taking urgent action to limit the rise in temperature and mitigate its catastrophic effects. First, a graceful yet massive synthesis of a very large selection of scientific research papers; second, an eloquent and honest plea for action on the 'slow-motion crisis' that is climate change; and third, a coherent account of how global warming would affect humans and their world if allowed to proceed.
?? Fighting Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking: History and Contemporary Policy [2021] tackles key controversies surrounding the anti-slavery and anti-trafficking movements head on. Champions and skeptics alike explore the fissures and fault lines that surround efforts to fight modern slavery and human trafficking today. These include: whether efforts to fight modern slavery displace or crowd out support for labor and migrant rights; whether and to what extent efforts to fight modern slavery mask, naturalize, or distract from racial, gendered, and economic inequality; and whether contemporary anti-slavery and anti-trafficking actors’ uses of history are accurate and appropriate.
