Sun Safe Play at School

As schools prepare to start a new year the height of summer will bring with it the challenge of sun safe play for students. Open running space and shade sails are the main spaces students will run around, unaware of the risk of overheating.

There are several ways in which the design of the school playground can lower the temperature significantly whilst still allowing children to roam freely.

Playgrounds with landscaped trees within the design not only look beautiful but cast a shade canopy that allows the hot air to rise. Shade sails, whilst an important part of the shade planning, send down a radiant heat from above.

A good landscape design in a playground can be a feature under which students will naturally rest.

Custom outdoor shaded seating features can also provide a cool outdoor learning spaces that are used for rest and shade during break time. Outdoor seating, if designed well, can be used throughout the school day and scheduled in to the small group work and class time schedule.
