About The Sun

Using the Gregorian calendar and accounting for leap years, this totals around 2,201,725 days, though interpretations and calendar adjustments may vary. That means that the sun is roughly 2 million days old.?

The sun has been a constant presence in our lives since the beginning of time. Everything else changes with time, but the sun is still one and constant. In the Bible, we find numerous references to this celestial body. According to the? bible, the sun was created on the fourth day (Genesis 1:16- So God made the two larger lights, the sun to rule over the day and the moon to rule over the night…). And in John 1:3, which states, "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." This verse emphasizes God's role in creation, including the sun, and His presence in it. One of the most famous biblical accounts involving the sun is found in Joshua 10:12-13. Joshua, in the midst of battle, commanded the sun to stand still, saying, "Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon." The Bible records that the sun stopped in the middle of the sky for about a full day, allowing Joshua to complete his victory. And guess what the sun that you see today is the same sun that Joshua referred to, it is the same sun that our forefathers from Abraham, Jacob etc…including Solomon, as seen in Song of Solomon 6:10 that states "Who is this that appears like the dawn, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, majestic as the stars in procession?" This is to show that the sun has been the most equalizing and constant phenomenon in our lives.

Since 2023, I've been observing the sun, especially at sunrise. This practice has brought mindfulness and calm, becoming more rejuvenating as I've done it consciously. Each day, at the same time, the sun shines differently, showcasing God as the greatest artist. And it is true, you cannot separate the Artist from the art. Many of my best inspirations have come from these observations, prompting me to explore why the sun holds such power. With its 2 million days of existence, the sun has witnessed it all and can teach us unimaginable lessons. Its constant presence, yet ever-changing appearance, reminds us of life's continuity and the potential for daily renewal.

Let us talk about this great occurrence. The sun's daily journey has been a constant throughout human existence, yet we often overlook its unifying power. Recently, I shared my observations with a group, realizing many hadn't considered how the sun connects us all. From presidents to servants, rich to poor, people worldwide witness the same sun. Its east-to-west path marks time and life's rhythm, reminding us of our global interconnectedness. The sun rises and sets equally for everyone, transcending social and economic barriers. This universality mirrors God's grace, available to all without discrimination. As Psalm 84:11 beautifully states, "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor," emphasizing the sun's role as a symbol of divine equality. Notable biblical references to the sun include Psalm 19:4-6, where it is compared to a bridegroom; Ecclesiastes 1:5, emphasizing the sun's daily cycle; and Malachi 4:2, describing the "sun of righteousness" rising with healing in its wings, symbolizing hope and restoration.

This is not only notable in the Old Testament but also in the New Testament, where Jesus uses the sun as a symbol of God's impartiality and the future glory of the righteous. In Matthew 5:45, it says, "He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous," highlighting God's grace toward all people. In Matthew 13:43, Jesus speaks of the final reward, stating, "Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father," symbolizing the brightness and purity of those who follow God's path.

Throughout history, world leaders and thinkers have often drawn inspiration from the sun, seeing it as a unifying force as its movement touches every part of the globe. Many writers and poets, too, have found the sun to be a powerful symbol. Walt Whitman marveled at its brilliance, stating, "Give me the splendid silent sun with all his beams full-dazzling." William Shakespeare reflected on the clarity it brings, writing, "The sun himself sees not till heaven clears." Albert Camus offered a more philosophical perspective, saying, "In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer," illustrating the sun's enduring presence even in life's darkest moments. Even the greatest philosophers from Marcus Aurelius, Plato, Aristotle, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Friedrich Nietzsche, Albert Camus, Khalil Gibran among others, they all acknowledged the power of the sun and the presence of God in the sun
