New Year’s resolutions – bah humbug! July is a way better time to reflect on how the year is going so far. Not just how things have gone, but where you want to go in the next few months and beyond.
At the beginning of January, we think about what accomplishments and milestones we and/or our business need to make. We have a driving energy to get going after the Christmas/New Year’s break. Our resolutions tend to be of a financial or business growth type. And there is an urgency and excitement to our planning and taking action. But perhaps we shortchange ourselves by not taking enough time to reflect on our values and beliefs; what is our purpose and mission; what is important to do and be in our lives.??
Today, I spent the afternoon in a Muskoka chair, surrounded by the sound of a soft warm breeze in the trees, a cacophony of bird songs, and a view of a bright blue lake in front of me.?With a good cup of coffee beside me, my journal on my lap and my favourite pen in hand, I allowed my thoughts to contemplate what my elder wiser self would advise me to focus on now. Summer always puts me in a space of relaxed activity. While I still have schedules to keep and tasks to complete, the pace does not feel urgent or fixed. Time opens up to contemplate questions I typically don’t make room for any other time.?Questions like:
