This summer’s news selection

Dear friends of Terre des hommes,

If you’ve missed our updates over the summer months, here is a brief selection of some of the topics we covered. From activities to help children in Gaza navigate the trauma of war to our emergency response after the devastating floods in Afghanistan, check out our highlights from June to September.

Psychological support for children in Gaza

Our team in Gaza has organised interactive activities in shelters to help displaced children overcome the trauma of war. Supported by the oPt Humanitarian Fund of the United Nations, this project is having a direct impact on the mental health of children and their families.

Terre des hommes adopts a joint environmental policy

On 22nd August, Terre des hommes, along with Terre des Hommes Suisse and Terre des Hommes Schweiz, adopted a unified environmental policy. This significant step aims to create a healthier, more sustainable environment for future generations. As a children’s rights organisation, we are convinced that safeguarding the environment is crucial for securing a brighter future for the world’s children.

Devastating floods in Afghanistan – Emergency response

In late July, devastating floods struck Nangarhar province in Afghanistan, causing widespread destruction. Terre des hommes immediately deployed mobile health teams to provide essential services, including prenatal and postnatal care for pregnant women and children. Our teams remain on the ground, continuing to support the most vulnerable communities with critical health interventions.

Interactive game : Understanding humanitarian decision-making

Have you ever wondered how humanitarians make tough decisions in the field? Terre des hommes invites you to participate in an interactive game that puts you in the shoes of a humanitarian worker. The game is designed to raise awareness about the daily challenges faced in protecting children and families in crisis. Play now and see how your decisions make an impact: 2023.tdh.org.

On 21st September, join us at the Nuit des Musées in Lausanne for the Trames exhibition, organised in partnership with Terre des hommes. This event will showcase stories from school children from around the world in Switzerland, providing them with a platform to share their migration journeys. Through creative workshops, Trames gave them the opportunity to express themselves freely about their migration experiences, culminating in the publication of a book. The Trames exhibition will be on display at the Immigration Museum in Lausanne.

On 12th September, Terre des hommes will collaborate with ThinkSport for the Youth Sports Safety Challenge, bringing together child protection experts, sports federations, and young athletes to explore innovative solutions for ensuring the safety and well-being of young athletes. The outcomes of this event will help shape future safety initiatives in sports, and we look forward to sharing them with you soon.
