Canmore AB??–?“It’s the longest day of the year and the furnace is on!”
??
Funny how the more things change – the more they stay the same. After record high temperatures in May and early June – the weather turned, like it always has, to below average. The rain is welcome but the cold temperatures – not so much.?
?
Here’s what I wrote last year – at almost exactly the same day.
Enjoy - H

Well, that was short-lived.?
?
Summer that is. Mid-week, we were fooled that it had arrived. Temperatures reached the low 70’s. With over 17 and a half hours of daylight, folks were out enjoying themselves in the sun at eight, nine in the evening. Families strolled along the river paths. Young adults conducted yoga in the park.?
?
The rest of the week? Mostly cold rain and a high of 55.?
?
It’s often a running joke here in the?Canadian Rockies. Both the variety of weather, day to day and hour to hour.?
?
March 21st?is always fun. First day of Spring, they say. This simply means we get 12 hours+ of daylight to ski.
?
The summer Solstice is another fun day.
?
Longest day of year. First day of summer. Shorts and sandals, sunscreen and shades.
?
Except that good old furnace still kicks on in the morning to bring the house up to a livable temperature.
?
With weather like this, the?old quote?about a glass half-full, or is it half-empty comes to mind.?
?
You remember. The pessimist sees the glass as half empty. The optimist sees a glass half-full. The realist sees a glass.?
?
Then the opportunist comes in and drinks it.
?
In coaching terms, we ask;?“Are you above, or below the line?”?Are you acting like a?Victor?or a?Victim??

Are you an?Opportunity Seeker?or a?Failure Magnet?
?
Do you?PROVE?yourself worthy of success or are you one who?BENDS?to the pressure of defeat?
?
Here’s an illustration of what I mean:
?
?
For Victims everything is a challenge, and no problem is ever resolved.
?
The key to being a Victor, in my mind, is to take?personal responsibility?for your situation and then be?proactive?in moving yourself to where you want to be.
?
Now, even the best of us can act and be below the line, some of the time. The key is to identify this behaviour and take action to move yourself back above it.
?
Until next week,
?
Stay healthy and focus on profit!?
