Summer
RevSandra Follett

the summer heat stops your breath
you’re always wet and sticky
even when the sun is hiding
behind the gray clouds that won’t spit rain
it makes you tired and feeling icky
course in summer there’s so much to do
swimming, water skiing, trail riding, more
your skin gets red and peely
even if you remember your sunscreen
there’s plenty of ouchiness in store
what is there to like about summer?
certainly not the microscopic winged visitors
they make you itch and jump and slap
but you can run and play in beach sand
and play a game of fetch with your critters
summer days are long enough
you can sit around the campfire
roast marshmallows, sing a song
reminisce about the good old days
before time for the sun to retire
