Sarah’s Summer Reading List Part 3?
There have been many books that have come out during COVID on remote and virtual work. The penning of this book began back when we thought “Corona” was a beer you had to cut with lime. In other words, it’s the real deal by people who have lead successful teams and organizations remotely. Kim’s my business mentor and?has founded and run a multimillion-dollar completely remote company, so she knows of what she speaks.?Anyone who says disconnection, disengagement and distraction is inevitable in remote work hasn’t heard Kim speak with such passion about the power of remote work for the employee experience, or at the very least, hasn’t read this book.?This book is as fun as it is packed with tools, frameworks and advice from industry experts. It’s the best remote book I know.
Have you ever felt like your voice didn’t matter, your opinion doesn’t count, or it just might be easier to not rock the boat? Do you sometimes hold back? Are you?hesitant to name difficult truths? I get it. I was a hardcore people pleaser for a long time, and I wish this book had existed at the start of my career. (No joke. I had to take a whole university course while 7-months pregnant with a 2-year old and a full-time job to get comfortable with conflict!) This helpful book?humanizes conflict and helps you navigate through it?– for the betterment of you, your team and the organization.?We all win when your voice is heard. You are greatness, even when there is tension.

I remember firsthand being in an important meeting with people that I really respected (and some I feared),?debating if I should say the unpopular thing, the brave thing, the vulnerable thing. I wish I could tell you I always said it. As my career progressed, the more I did, however, there?wasn’t always the sacred space where it was safe?to do so. Would I be able to handle the reaction? Would it be taken in the spirit it was intended? How would I deal with the fallout if I suddenly became the target? I used to think I needed to arrive at being an “assertive person”, however?Greg?shares the journey that we’re all on to co-create brave spaces within ourselves, teams and organizations.
That’s all for now, although can’t wait to share more. I’m also devouring books by the boatloads these days both in print and audiobook, so?I’ll share others I discover along the way too. Two more that I’m almost finished (I’m just a few batches of banana bread away from finishing the audiobooks), “Burnout” and “The Art of Gathering” and I cannot wait to tell you more about them. Changing my life!
As always, if you would be so kind as to give me your honest rating of any books you have of mine, I’d be so grateful!
