Summer Internship at Watts Water Technologies

Summer Internship at Watts Water Technologies

This summer (2023), I was privileged to undertake a rewarding internship as a Supply Chain Analyst at Watts Water Technologies, a renowned global provider of high-quality water solution technologies. My initial week was dedicated to understanding the company's operations by visiting the foundry, manufacturing plant, and distribution center. In addition, I was introduced to the supply chain planning software QAD and data files that formed the focus of my internship.

Over the course of my internship, I successfully completed the following projects:

1.?????Safety Stock Level Analysis and Optimization: After identifying the company potentially maintained higher safety stock levels, leading to excess spending on storage, I undertook an in-depth analysis to optimize safety stock levels. Through this endeavor, I uncovered potential savings of approximately $1.2 million.

2.?????Inventory Level Optimization: The primary challenge was striking a balance between having an inadequate supply of units, resulting in production halts, versus having excessive units that led to higher storage costs. Collaborating closely with the Purchasing Team, I revised due dates for incoming purchase orders from suppliers to ensure an optimal threshold inventory level.

3.?????Daily Reports: I actively contributed to the generation of daily reports that captured critical data points like daily sales, purchase orders, work orders, forecasts, and inventory levels.

4.?????Automated Weekly Dashboards: I designed automated dashboards to track manufacturing progress and identify areas for improvement on a weekly basis. These dashboards empowered the operations team to plan production efficiently.

My internship journey proved to be a highly enriching experience, and my key takeaways are:

1.?????Gaining proficiency in utilizing software tools like QAD and Power BI

2.?????Effective Cross-Departmental Collaboration and Networking

3.?????My involvement in continuous improvement initiatives and analytics sharpened my problem-solving acumen, setting a strong foundation for my future success in the supply chain domain.

I would like to thank my mentor Larry Merrey for his guidance and support throughout this internship.

Furthermore, I am grateful to The University of Texas at Dallas for giving me the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the field of supply chain management.
