Summer Internship Experience @ Pioneer Natural Resources

Transitioning from an Oil & Gas Industry background, I eagerly embarked on my IT Audit internship at Pioneer Natural Resources with immense enthusiasm. This experience has not only enriched my practical knowledge of IT Audit but has also fine-tuned my interpersonal abilities.

Throughout my internship, I evaluated the IT general controls of SOX applications and tools within the scope, focusing on change and access management. One of the projects I worked at was a sox upgrade testing for HFM & DRM. In this I performed completeness & accuracy testing of data related to cost centers and charts of accounts both before and after the upgrade, leveraging advanced excel functions. Furthermore, I worked on evaluating controls related to password and privileged user access for in-scope SOX tools, ensuring they are appropriate and align with company’s policies and guidelines. My role also encompassed the preparation of pivotal work papers, serving as crucial evidence for external audits.

My experience as an IT audit intern deepened my over all understanding of change management and access management controls. Apart from these my other key takeaways were effective documentation, meticulous attention to detail and effective collaboration with the team. The culmination of this journey arrived as I presented my internship accomplishments to the company's executive committee during our final presentations. Apart from my day-to-day work activities my summer internship also included a 1-week field trip to midland, volunteering at Irving cares and weekly lunch and learn sessions at the company.

I extend my appreciation to Vivian Nguyen, CISA and Leon Villarica for granting me this opportunity and offering continuous guidance that has advanced my skill set. I also wish to acknowledge Professor Joseph Mauriello and the UT Dallas IIA student organization , as they played a crucial role in initiating my journey into auditing. As my summer internship concludes I am looking forward to embarking new opportunities and grow further in the field of IT.?
