Summer Intern Profile Series: Meet Analise!

Summer Intern Profile Series: Meet Analise!

In our last Summer Intern Profile Series, you were introduced to Daniel Gutierrez, J.Jill’s Finance intern. In this week’s profile, we’re bringing you along to meet Analise Colon, J. Jill’s Design intern.

Analise is attending Massachusetts College of Art and Design and majoring in Design. While at J. Jill her main projects have consisted of conducting design research, assisting with sketching, designing products for the sub-brands, and participating in fittings.

So, what interested Analise in interning within Design at J.Jill? “The opportunity to learn and participate in the brand’s design process,” Analise said. She further explained design has a lengthy timeline and being able to see a product from start to finish really helps her understand all the details and metrics that play a big role in developing a product.

What’s it been like for Analise interning at J.Jill? “My typical day as a Design intern is always changing, much like the fashion world. Some days are spent working with the Design department developing sketches, steaming garments, etc. Other days are spent with the Product Development team checking samples and attending meetings,” Analise said. She further shared that she has also worked with the Fabric team to learn the fabrics J.Jill loves and uses, the CAD team to acquire knowledge of the program they use, and the Color team to learn how to approve the dye of a fabric. During our interview, Analise also said that she is looking forward to working with the Technical Design Department to learn the process that goes into measuring samples, conducting fittings on models, etc. “This team sits as a backbone of design,” she explained.

While at J.Jill, Analise shared that she has been given the chance to take advantage of many learning opportunities. One of her favorite projects she has worked on is her own design of a knit top for the Summer ‘23 collection. When I asked Analise more about this, she said, “Always remain curious and be open to new ideas and feedback.” She went on to explain that this can be helpful when having to create multiple clothing releases a year to not get repetitive with your ideas. For those looking to pursue a career in Design, Analise suggested, “Take advantage of internship opportunities! There is no way of knowing the industry and its functions without a learning opportunity. Along the way, you will also meet amazing people on your journey that will encourage you and want to see you succeed and grow.”

In our next internship profile, we’ll hear from Shinjini Agrawal, J.Jill’s Sourcing intern, to learn more about her interests and the work she has done at J.Jill this Summer. Stay tuned!?
