Summer holidays and career change - the truth!

Summer holidays and career change - the truth!

How are you??

If, like me, you are fully into school summer holidays, how is it going? I notice there's a love hate divide between parents - some love the lack of routine, not having to rush for school runs etc; whilst others find it's a logistical nightmare making sure you can work and have the kids occupied / taken care of! Then of course the feelings of guilt for not being able to have a carefree summer with your little darlings because sadly the 'six-weeks holiday' doesn't apply to the working world! Whatever your summer looks like, I hope you get some down time alongside the juggle of kids' clubs.

Maybe you are still in the midst of trying to work out changes to your career? The fact summer holidays hit doesn't stop the thoughts and feelings of no longer loving your career and not knowing what to do about it. In fact, it can compound it even more! Resenting the career you no longer want that is dragging you away from summer spent with your children.

I was having a conversation with a client the other day about flexibility over the summer.?For her, she saw the holidays as potential chaos and felt she wouldn't be able to make much progress with her career change over this time. I asked why this was and was her partner able to share the logistical, childcare / clubs / entertaining load...

'Oh, he'll be really busy with his work so it all falls to me I'm afraid' she said.

Here's the truth.

As mums, it is far too easy to put pressure on ourselves to do it all and at times, even when it's at the sacrifice of what we want and need. Putting others' needs before our own, assuming it has to be that way often can become the norm.?In my client's case, she needed flexibility and a bit more support, but she just hadn't had a conversation with her husband about making that happen.

If we don't have that conversation, how will things ever change?

You will be pleased to know she did then have 'the chat'. Guess what? It just hadn't occurred to her husband that she could do with making use of some of this time in the summer to continue focussing on her career change work. The outcome of the chat? Her husband is now working from home two days a week taking care of kids club drop offs, giving her time to focus on her career development and move towards those changes!

Now your situation may be different in terms of partner support, but there will be something you can achieve over the summer. Summer holidays do not mean the world has to pause! All those clubs we normally ferry the kids around to in the evenings have mainly stopped - there’s a slice of time each week right there!?Think about what ONE thing you could do to help you reach your goals these next 5 or so weeks.

I couldn't share this without sharing some exciting news that maybe your ONE thing!

I have been working away behind the scenes on a new online group coaching programme?… this is for you if:

? You’re stuck going round in circles trying to decide what career you can have instead

??You’re fed up with feeling at best apathy about your job

??You have lost your sparkle - at least as far as work is concerned

??The thought of the next 20 years in the same career fills you with horror!

Imagine if it were different??

If you had clarity on what you could do instead? That you saw you had options available to you? That you had a vision, a plan to get there and it didn’t mean total disruption to family life?

All of that is possible!

So if that one thing you do over the holidays is to join the waitlist for this programme so you know with certainty in September you have a structured programme to FINALLY help you make those changes and decisions before the year is out, then click?here and join my Career Change with Clarity programme waitlist.

I would love to know how your summer is shaping up and what ONE thing you plan to do to help your career change - so do feel free to message me back - I will always reply.

Have a great summer
