"A Summer of Growth: AIESEC Future Leaders in UNAND"

Since we were young we were introduced to leadership by our parents or even teachers. Whether it was being told to line up to go to class or simply learning to share toys with our siblings, they were our first leader figure in life. As the time goes by they start to give us responsibilities such as encouraging a student to take the lead in group assignment or planning a family trip. These early experiences highlight the importance of leadership in our personal life. As we grow, we need leadership in our development not just for personal growth but also prepares us to tackle the challenges of the world.

The Padang Youth, is there any room for improvement? Of Course there is! There's always room to expand and improve ourselves not only as individuals but also as a community. Diving head-first into organizations and putting ourselves out there is one of the key factors of self-improvement. Our city is filled with such valuable creativity, but how exactly could we develop our generation’s greatest minds? The solution is AIESEC in Universitas Andalas !

AIESEC is a global youth-led organization striving to achieve peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential by activating leadership qualities in youth. AIESEC has a program called AFL which stands for AIESEC Future Leaders. AIESEC Future Leaders is a program that provides youth development in the form of a community for youth to further develop leadership roles in their society. AFL is a 3-month program which consists of sessions for skill development spaces where participants can get coaching for soft & hard skills.

What do we do in AFL?

So what do we do while in AFL? Basically over the past three months, we were given the space to grow and learn regarding leadership training as a self-improvement along with the full grasp of digital marketing. With this year's summer peak theme "Digital Marketing", we were guided and enlightened regarding the crucial conversation that needed to be held in today's modern age. Along with the training of our inner leadership, creative problem-solving and empathy in communications were emphasized as highly valuable not only in the industry but in the world around us. While hard-skills are important, soft-skills are equally essential to make an impact.

Effective Leadership and Communication are two things that are interrelated in organizations. A good leader must possess certain qualities, skills, and characteristics that enable them to lead their team or organization towards success. Important leadership traits include Selflessness, Inspire Action, Understanding the purpose. Integral to this leadership development was understanding how social landscape mapping—depicting social phenomena on a map—helps in grasping the broader context in which we operate.

Also did you know in addition to these helpful insights we were taught the ways of how to master content writing and its delivery? That's true! The main gist of it is the RISE strategy which stands for Relevancy, Intellectually, Sensorially, and Emotionally. Along with the ever-improving technology of AI, it shouldn't be a hindrance of a creator's creativity. Rather, it could be a helping tool to make just the right direction on how your creation could go. But of course, excessive usage would only lose the essence of uniqueness and individuality of the project made by the human mind. By assembling together the many newly acquired knowledge and skills from our sessions, this article was able to be made!
