Summer is upon us, and The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region has launched an exciting season filled with fun and enriching activities for youth ages 6-21 with differing abilities. The Anna and James Lambdin Family Support Institute is hosting Summer Respite Days, designed as outings and opportunities for empowerment, friendship, and inclusion.
Angela Sonnemann, Manager of Family Support Services, said there are still spaces available for some of the outings.? “Many families are in need of an inexpensive, fun, safe place for their child to attend in the summer when school is out,” Sonnemann explained. ?“Due to their disabilities, they often can't go to the mainstream programs. In our respite program the families get a break from caregiving and the kids get a fun filled day. As a bonus, campers also learn important social skills with our staff and peer volunteers. Lastly our teen volunteers learn about disabilities and build on this experience when they go onto their adult careers.”
