Free Flight Experiences for Middle and High School Students!
STEM Flights is a national nonprofit organization that provides free flight experiences to middle and high school students all over the country. Volunteer Pilot Mentors are paired with students to fly and learn about STEM and aerospace careers. This program is offered in all 50 states and students can apply online to receive a flight experience all year round. For more information and to sign up, visit www.stemflights.org.
Try These At-Home Optics Activities!
Grades 1-4
We often see beautiful rainbows during or right after a rainstorm, but did you know that you can make your very own rainbow at home? Learn how to create your own here!
Grades 4-12
In this activity, students use a sheet of acetate to make a transparent, four-sided pyramid. The pyramid’s sides act as four mirrors, situated at 45° angles on a smartphone or tablet screen, and create a hologram-like projector. Try it here.?
Grades 9-12
Try this hands-on lesson that explores two kinds of lenses, convex and concave, and observe their similarities and differences. This activity also tests what happens when using multiple lenses at the same time. Check it out here.?
Neuroscience At-Home
Keep the curiosity flowing. Explore neuroscience basics right from home! Complete worksheets online, try a quiz or two, or even break out some jellybeans to dupe your family with a taste-and-smell activity.?
