Summer Check-In

Summer Check-In

Well hey there, I hope you’re having a great week so far as we start to shift into that weekend mode with some friends, family, and beer, but before we get there I wanted to take some time today to speak with you about your organizational culture.

With the summer underway, it’s going to be time to balance work with play. The weather will be nice, some or many of your team members may have kids on summer break, and get-together activities (both work and personal) will begin to shift outside. It’s a time where engagement often seems to slip just a bit as people break free from the hold that winter has on us all.?

That makes it a perfect time for you to put your organizational culture to work. You want your culture to engage folks day-to-day, and those times of the year when engagement may seem to slip a bit, that’s the perfect time to implement a strategy to get things on the right track.

For example, creating an outing or an annual event that takes place over the summer is the perfect time to get folks thinking about new ways to take that next step. It’s the time of the year that people are thinking about vacations anyway, why not take advantage and use it as a strategy to fuel engagement?

You see, sometimes the ideas are right there in front of you. Something will give you an idea and then before you know it the gears are turning. Other times you have to look around and really hunt for those outside of the box strategies to engage people. I’m not talking about just putting another ‘culture event’ on the company calendar for folks once a quarter, I’m talking about real meaningful experiences that bring everyone together like an in-house competition or a unique team-based outing like an escape room that will help create culture on more than one front.

Your culture will only be as good as you make it to be.?

I always like to say, leaders if you aren’t having a great time at work then it’s your fault. You are the author of your very own ‘choose your own adventure’ book, and I hate to say it but chances are if you aren’t having a great time at work then your team members probably aren’t either. If you feel engagement slipping, your team members already have.?

Keep your finger on the ‘pulse’ of your culture, and create those events to engage your team members year round.

I hope you’ve had a great week and this weekend treats you well.
