Summer of change

Summer of change

Change is the only constant as ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus is often quoted saying. And what a summer it has been. In Europe, the EU-parliamentary elections had the potential to shift the power balance but, in the end, it became a correction more than a directional shift. The war in Ukraine seems like it is moving into a new phase, and we have yet to see the implications of that.

The US presidential campaign has been doing somersaults and every prediction is that it will be a very close race. The outcome will without a doubt affect the role the USA takes in the green transition.

The stock market has been a bit of a rollercoaster, and the interest rates return to a lower level has been postponed a few times – but now seems to be coming. Obviously, something that has a massive implication for many businesses and the availability and cost of capital.

And the weather…. that is a chapter on its own. Record upon record on temperatures and other weather extremes have been broken. The changing climate is now obvious to everyone! This will increasingly occupy the business agenda in the time to come.

The good news to you dear subscribers is, that you are on the right track to tackle this changing climate and harvest some of the many potential upsides it can bring to a business.

Over the summer break, I have decided on a few changes here at Business With Impact as well (e.g. moving to a 4-day work week. More on the experiences later) and, more directly affecting you, on how I keep offering valuable content to people like you.

??New shorter format for the newsletter??

This newsletter has been going since April 2022 and I have given it a bit of a makeover: Shorter and quicker to read, more focus on inspiration and practical advice and a new platform. I have renamed it to “Impact Tomorrow” to signal that this will help you impact the world of tomorrow.

Sounds good you might think – so what do I have to do? ?NOTHING?

At the time of writing this just above 1.650 people have subscribed (thank you - very grateful).? And of course, you are all being migrated to the new platform, so you get it straight to your inbox. You will get a welcome email soon. If it somehow don't reach you there is a link in the comments to subscribe.

I have kickstarted the new format over the last couple of months to finetune it before I made the migration, and we are getting towards the first 100 subscribers and they have a very high opening and click rate – well beyond the norm.

I hope you will be as happy with the new format as they are.

If you have any comments or suggestions, I would love to hear from you. Just DM me or drop me an email.

Sounds like a smart move switching to a shorter, weekly format. How do you decide on the topics for your weekly articles?

There is some sort of hidden normative behaviour amongst people. I have experience not once, but multiple times. The fear to speak about the things the matter. If you speak about children of tomorrow, about the world, the effect of war, pollution, microplastic, or any other pertinent issue. You will be seen as living in a pink cloud, trying to act Mr world saviour, smarter than others, or so. Further, seen as naive and off topic. Once we cross that barrier, we can anytime anywhere discuss important matters without looking like the Jesus in the room. We have to normalize the discussion of such issues without rocking the boat.
