Summer at Cala: Interns
Cala Health
A bioelectronic medicine company transforming the standard of care for chronic disease.
Our summer internship program at Cala Health started in March of this year. Our managers were tasked with identifying projects, varying from one to many, for each role. Collectively, we reviewed over 975 applications and successfully hired twenty-one summer interns, which included three previous interns!
The representation was phenomenal for both our technical and non-technical roles! We had students representing Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. programs spanning eighteen universities, both coasts and everywhere in between. (Cal Poly - SLO, Duke University, Cal State East Bay, Cal State Northridge, Carnegie Mellon University x2, Chapman University, Duke University, Georgia Tech, Harvard University, Northeastern University, Rice University, Rutgers University, San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, Stanford University, UC Irvine, University of Arizona, University of Utah, and the University of Wisconsin).
Their presence was felt immediately. From the start, they immersed themselves in their departments, project teams, and our company culture. Every day they brought an infectious energy to our office and Zoom when they worked remotely. They made us better!

One of Cala's values is "One Team"; our interns got the chance to embrace and live that value through one of our favorite programs - GOYA (Get Off Your A**). This program allows you to get to know your colleagues, seek advice/mentorship, break down project barriers, and take a break from the grind of a normal workday. Our interns were encouraged to participate in GOYAs, allowing them to meet and network with anyone at Cala, from early career professionals extending to our senior leaders. Engineering intern quote - "I personally thought this internship experience was amazing. I had the chance to network with individuals throughout the entirety of the company through GOYAs, and I also had the chance to grow as an engineer with the work that I did throughout my internship."
Our time together went by quickly. However, this group left lasting impressions on our organization and on us as individuals. Before the summer ended, they hosted a Happy Hour. What activity did they have us play? Jeopardy! We laughed, competed, and ultimately had fun working as "One Team". We hope you had as much fun as we did this summer.
You may have learned from us, but we also learned a lot from each of you. Because of that, we thank you! We can't wait to see what each of you do next in your respective careers, and who knows, maybe we'll see you again next summer!
