Summer Blog Recap: LSIC Believes in Mooting

Ever wondered why mooting is important to lawyers and law students? It is an excellent way for them to learn, practice, and perfect advocacy before presenting cases in court. It also builds their confidence as legal advocates.

This summer, LSIC attorneys participated in several mooting sessions to help Alfred Carry, a 2010 alumnus of our Criminal Division Clinic and Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, prepare his argument for the case, Jean Baptiste Bado v. United States. Carry argued the case before the DC Court of Appeals in June. The question it examined is whether a noncitizen is constitutionally entitled to a jury trial for a misdemeanor offense that results in deportation and other consequences if convicted.

During our alumni podcast interview with him in August, he shared why he values mooting and worked on the case as a pro bono attorney. Go here to listen. Read our blog post to learn more.
