The Summer Archival Project
Matt Shadbolt
Head of Product, Core News Experiences at NBC News Group. Penn '25. Creator.
Every year, usually while sitting on the beach looking out onto the ocean and listening to the Destiny soundtrack, I take on a large-scale creative project. Two years ago I made a series of physical books documenting my work over the past twenty five years. Last year I began working with Ai tools such as MidJourney and ultimately began the process of what would become https://eurylae.com/ in early 2023. I also returned to Instagram and after a false start, built a 20k+ following over at https://www.instagram.com/artificialmatt/.
This year it was time to redesign what was happening at https://www.matthewshadbolt.com/, which was originally built four years ago to house all my work, and also offered a place to grow creatively into the future, but over time it had grown beyond its original usefulness, was cumbersome to work with under the hood, and just needed some product love.
This year I've been building out several things across sites such as https://www.artificialmatt.com/, which has been scaling really nicely, but it was time to apply the same approach to the rest of my work. Splitting it out into the three As - Artificial, Academic and Archival, and bringing everything together under one roof as a hub at https://www.matthewshadbolt.com/ has taken time, but afforded me the opportunity to go back over everything with a lot more fidelity, tidy things up, and re-organize the thousands of pieces of content I have there in a way that now allows me to scale for the future. The main archives are now found, where else, but at https://www.archivalmatt.com/.

I'm really happy with now having a place to scale what I've been building, and the consistency feels good so far. I'd love to hear what you think of it all, cheers!
