Summer 2024 "Good Start" News from Character GPS
We just finished our 1st 4-day Character GPS Summer Camp held June 17-20 at Stewart Middle Magnet School in Tampa! The Graduation was held on Thursday which marked the culmination of the camp.
The students were mostly 8th grade STEM Students preparing for the big jump to High School. They were just awesome, eager to work hard in learning all the GPS Principles of Success from Day 1!!!

Derrick Silvers, standing on the far left, was our great Keynote Speaker! He sells luxury homes and was our personal realtor, even though our home he sold for us was not quite luxury. He also has a compelling story to tell students about overcoming addictions and better yet, not to even start! To make it fun...he brought in some technology that he uses to excel in marketing as the best in the business, including use of his drone, google glasses and virtual equipment.

Chik-Fil-A donated lunches for Monday and Wednesday! Gus Corneil, father of one of our campers, is the Operations Manager there for the Chik-Fil-A on West Waters in Tampa. He spoke words of wisdom to our campers as our "Hero Guest of the Day" on Day 3! Click this link to give a listen:
We also thank McDonalds for donated Double-Cheeseburgers on Tuesday & Thursday, as they have been loyal donors for our GPS Summer Camps dating back to 2018.
We have really been stepping it up regarding resisting addictions by proactively deciding before being put under peer pressure in the moment. After giving compelling evidence of how our brain chemistry really works, students can really understand the advantages for staying sober. Thus, we were so impressed that all of our students signed a "Pledge to Live Drug and Alcohol FREE" to avoid illegally using these dangerous drugs!!!!
Just in 4 days, our Kids became amazing GPS Leaders!!! They get it!!

Our students also worked on their Career Goals to help motivate them and focus on pursuing their successful future! We were impressed that one of our students wants to become the Director of NASA and bring it back to its former glory! He has a Myers-Briggs ENTJ-Chief Personality and is very intelligent, making him a great "match" in his talents to have a high success potential to achieve this Career Goal. Adding his passion and drive, we think he "Cain Do" it!
Our students walked away from this GPS Camp understanding the 16 GPS Core Values for Success and ready to practice them for 30 days to make them their "Habits for Life".
We know that these 16 Core Values will serve them well in getting a great start this Fall in High School, as well as for the rest of their lives, giving them a steady "Internal Compass" that never changes, to navigate through our ever-changing and confusing culture.
We are so grateful to God and to the State of Florida for the renewal of our Annual DJJ Grant that helps provide our Character GPS Program and especially these intensive GPS Summer Camps for our youth, guiding them through these troubled times to reach their bright future ahead!
