Summer 2023 Internship Experience at PepsiCo

Summer 2023 Internship Experience at PepsiCo

This summer, I was extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to intern at the PepsiCo headquarters in Plano, Texas. During my internship with PepsiCo, I gained valuable insight into how the company sets high standards to become industry leaders. Given the breadth of the company’s product offering and global success, I learned a lot about how a successful multinational corporation is run daily. After speaking to senior executives, I also understood what it takes to stand out from competitors and how to meet the ever-changing needs of consumers efficiently.?

During my summer internship, I worked under the Routing Intelligence Center (RIC), which falls under the PepsiCo Beverages North America (PBNA) organization. The RIC team focuses on bridging the gap by communicating directly with those in the field and those within the headquarters. The Routing Intelligence Center is one branch of the Go-To-Market (GTM) team that focuses on the last-mile delivery aspect of the supply chain. At the RIC, we create, manifest, and optimize the shipping routes for the trucks from our warehouse and distribution center locations across the U.S. These routes help PepsiCo ensure that we can gain a competitive advantage through the Direct-Store-Delivery method of order fulfillment.?

My time with the Routing Intelligence Center was extremely fulfilling as I learned the ins and outs of what the team does and understood the importance of their work in the larger value chain for the company. I got tons of hands-on experience using different software to create routes and optimize truckloads. As part of the RIC training program, I also went to a warehouse facility and understood the final part of the supply chain - fulfilling the manifested route. This experience was highly beneficial as I could view the impact of my team's work and understand the challenges and issues that those in the field face every day. Overall, my time with the Routing Intelligence Center was extremely meaningful, and I’m grateful to have learned so much in such a short period.?

PepsiCo prides itself on creating more smiles with every sip and every bite by setting high standards for those within the company. During my time at PepsiCo, I saw how the “PepsiCo Way” permeates the entire company and how everyone strives to work Faster, Stronger, and Better with every initiative they undertake. In addition, what stood out for me was PepsiCo’s focus on the PEP+ program. PepsiCo is determined to positively impact the environment by leading a transformation across the company with sustainability at its center. All of which can be seen across the many initiatives at the Plano HQ.?

I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to intern with PepsiCo this summer. I was able to grow not only professionally but personally, too. My experience at PepsiCo has given me immense knowledge that I will carry forward for years to come.
