Summer 2022 Internship Experience at Crescent

Over the course of Summer, I got the honor of working as a Business Analyst Summer Intern with the Credit Analytics and Business Strategy division at Crescent Bank & Trust- an organization firmly rooted in the past albeit strongly focused towards future, starting as a community bank out of New Orleans and now rubbing shoulders with contemporaries like Chase, Enterprise, and Santander. What started with participating in a Data Science Contest organized by the Bank at UTD, culminated into nine phenomenal weeks of inordinate learning, growing, and interacting with like-minded people with similar professional aspirations of embracing change, harnessing the power of data and novel technologies to promulgate sustainable development, and generating prescient ideas to deliver excellence.

Given the backdrop of the contest, I started with extending the business problem introduced in the contest, and collaborating with the Decision Science team on fitting different Machine Learning algorithms to create a probabilistic model to mitigate delinquency. I branched out into Business Intelligence, and gradually assimilated with the Servicing Analytics team wherein I worked on producing actionable insights to make data-driven decisions, by creating BI reports pertaining to the various metrics and KPIs used by the bank to optimize operations, drive profits, and improve customer services.

And given my multi pronged role as a Summer Intern with Crescent, my coursework as a Graduate Student of Business Analytics at UTD, with courses including Applied Machine Learning, Database Foundations in SQL, Data Visualization, Business Analytics in R and Advanced Statistics, was massively helpful and I'd be remiss if I don't acknowledge the fact that it played a big role in my successful stint as a Summer Intern, and would be coming back to continue working over Fall.

Last but certainly not the least, I would like to thank the team at Crescent- Sangeeta Raghu , Bernard Guerrero , Derrick Hung , Fernando Jaimes and Benjamin Vega for patiently guiding, supporting, and mentoring us at each step of the internship, my co-interns Tanmayee Potturu , Amir and Sean for making this experience an even exuberant one, and Professor Gaurav Shekhar for organizing the Data Science Contest at UTD, and providing us the opportunity to participate in it.
