There are many types of tire certifications, with 18 types in total. Each country has different standards and characteristics. Let’s learn about them together!
CCC compulsory certification
The compulsory product certification implemented in China referred to as CCC or 3C certification, is a legally mandated safety certification system that is in line with international standards and aims to safeguard consumer rights and safety. This system uses "series" as the certification unit, such as "50 series car radial tires", and issues corresponding certificates, which are valid for up to five years. The certification mark is based on the factory, ensuring that each factory has a unique certification number to achieve precise management.
INMETRO (Brazil) certification
The Brazilian government has clearly stipulated that products entering its market must meet Brazilian standards and various technical requirements, and must be accompanied by the INMETRO logo and the logo of a third-party organization approved by INMETRO. The Brazilian Ministry of Transport implements annual factory inspections every year to ensure compliance.
Product certification is based on "family" groupings, covering factors such as speed grade, tire type, aspect ratio, section width and whether it is reinforced, and is ultimately integrated into a single certificate, which is valid for one year. Factory audits are required every year to maintain the validity of the certificate.
US DOT compulsory certification
The "DOT" mark confirms that the tire meets the safety standards set by the US Department of Transportation (DOT). The 11-digit number and letter combination that follows constitutes the unique identification code or serial number of the tire. DOT standards are subdivided into three levels: A, B, and C. Level C is the minimum standard and only meets the minimum performance threshold stipulated by DOT, while levels A and B both exceed these basic requirements.
LATU (Uruguay) certification
Grouped by "family", covering speed grade, tire type, height-to-width ratio, cross-section width and whether it is reinforced. Eventually, all classified "family" groups will be unified into one certificate, and audit procedures will be implemented for the relevant factories. The validity period of this certificate is set to one year.
GCC (Gulf Seven Countries)
The seven Gulf countries in the Middle East, specifically covering Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Yemen, all apply the following standards:
Products must be certified in strict accordance with established specifications, covering speed grade, load-bearing capacity, and tire type (such as semi-steel snow tires and conventional tires); the certification process also involves tire construction details, such as the selection of frame materials and the setting of the number of belt layers; The certification certificate issued is valid for one year to ensure that products circulating in the market continue to meet high standards.
SNI Indonesia certification
Implement the certification process according to established "specifications" and issue corresponding certificates. At the same time, factory audits are strictly implemented. Specific regulations are followed: Trucks and cars follow the 06-0099-2002 standard, and light trucks follow the 06-0100-2002 standard. The certificate issued is valid for three years.
e-mark certification
The E-mark certification specifications remain unchanged, but it is specifically pointed out that it is for EU member states and needs to comply with the certification requirements of the 92/23/EEC regulation.
E-mark certification
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Automotive Regulations, referred to as ECE, has its E mark rooted in the detailed regulatory system promulgated by the Economic Commission of Europe (ECE). This regulatory framework covers 54 countries on the European continent, including not only EU member states, but also widely extends to non-EU regions such as Eastern Europe and Southern Europe.
The ECE certification system is based on strict classification of specifications, finely distinguishing the vehicle's speed level, load-carrying capacity, structural design and even tire type, ensuring that each specification has a unique certification number. During the certification process, vehicles need to undergo dual tests of high-speed performance and edge safety to fully comply with the requirements of the two core regulations ECER30 and ECER54. Once certified, the certificate becomes permanently valid and serves as solid proof of vehicle safety and compliance.
GSO (Russia)
Order No. 282 of the State Customs Committee of the Russian Federation promulgated the "List of commodities that require compulsory certification when entering the customs territory of the Russian Federation." According to Russian law, these commodities can only obtain national standard certificates of conformity (GSO certificates) issued by the Russian State Committee for Standards and Metrology. to enter the Russian market.
PVOC (Kenya) certification
PVOC, an innovative initiative adopted by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), aims to follow the WTO framework and replace the former "Pre-Shipment Inspection" (PSI) system. This mechanism requires that the test report or certification certificate submitted must clearly prove that the goods shipped comply with Kenyan national standards, or equivalent, recognized international standards. In the absence of such supporting documents, the goods will face additional inspections at the Kenyan port, which may not only lead to delays in customs clearance, but may also lead to rejection due to non-compliance with standards.

Noise, rolling resistance, wet slip certification
According to the R117.02 regulation, a compulsory certification system is implemented for tires exported to UNECE member countries. Since November 1, 2014, any products that do not meet the standards will be banned from being sold in member countries.
The certification process is divided into "pattern series" and long-term certificates are issued. There are no inner and outer restrictions on the engraving position of the certification mark. Only one side is required to meet the requirements.
NOM (Mexico) certification
In Mexico, the NOM mark must be engraved on the product and its packaging to comply with regulatory requirements. This regulation makes it clear that holders of NOM certificates are limited to local Mexican companies. However, overseas manufacturers still have the opportunity to apply for and obtain NOM certification through institutions certified by the Mexican Standardization Council. It is worth noting that tires have been clearly listed as one of the commodities that must hold NOM certification before entering the Mexican market. This regulation ensures high standards for market access and the reliability of product quality.
SONCAP (Nigeria) certification
SONCAP, as a new initiative launched by the Nigerian government, aims to strictly control and prevent substandard and potentially dangerous products from flowing into its borders. The core of this policy is to ensure that all controlled products exported to Nigeria and placed on the market meet the requirements of Nigerian industrial standards.
The SONCAP certification system not only builds a quality benchmark and balances the competitive environment between imported and local products, but also effectively curbs the dumping of inferior goods, thus safeguarding the interests of the country and importers and reducing the economic losses that may be caused by substandard products. Losses, casualties and foreign exchange losses. At the same time, the system demonstrates its commitment to environmental protection by preventing environmental problems, such as pollution, caused by the destruction of substandard products.
The SONCAP certification process for tires and other products mainly involves the application for PC (Product Conformity Certificate) and SC (Pre-shipment Conformity Certificate). The fee structure depends on the tire model and the number of trademarks. Once the information is complete and submitted for inspection, the certificate will usually be issued within 10 to 15 working days. The validity period of the PC certificate is flexible, with two options: one year and three years. Each shipment within the validity period requires an additional SC certificate to ensure continued compliance with standards, promote trade facilitation, and attract investors who are truly interested in the Nigerian market. .
SABS (South Africa) certification
Since January 1, 1996, South Africa has implemented a compulsory certification system for tires. All tires exported to the country must first pass SABS certification and obtain the corresponding certificate before being released.
A simplified overview of the tire SABS certification process is as follows:
1. Appointment of certification agent.
2. Submit certification application to NRCS.
3. The manufacturer submits samples, conducts tests and obtains test reports.
4. NRCS assigns specialists to process applications, issue test forms, and determine factory inspection times.
5. NRCS conducts a comprehensive audit of the factory and submitted samples.
6. After passing the audit, a SABS certification will be issued, which will be valid for three years unless revoked for special reasons.
SONC (Nigeria) certification
Nigeria implements a unified certification system, and its certification process strictly follows the specifications and standards submitted for a single time and treats all-steel and semi-steel products equally. A valid ECE certificate must be provided as a requirement when applying. This certificate is valid for one year.
SASO (Saudi Arabia) certification:
To apply for SASO tire certification, you must submit a GCC certificate or test report from the corresponding laboratory, packing list, invoice and application form. The certification fee is accurately calculated based on the FOB value.
If the manufacturer's information is complete and the GCC certificate is valid, the SASO customs clearance certificate can usually be obtained within 10 to 15 working days after the inspection is completed.
Please note that SASO certification is valid for a single time, and each batch of goods needs to apply for the corresponding certificate independently.
BIS India certification
The factory is audited, with specifications as the core certification unit, and the certificate issued is permanently valid.
COC (Iraq) certification
Three-year certification: This certification requires Russian experts to visit the manufacturer's location and conduct detailed product production inspections. The certificate obtained clearly states the name of the product. Within the validity period (three years), the product enjoys the convenience of being directly imported into Russia without inspection and is not limited by the number of times. This certification system is strictly based on the results of comprehensive product testing.
