Assalamualaikum wbt and have a good day !
Alhamdulillah TabarakaAllah.
First thing first, this would be the last edition of my internship post as I'm approaching the end. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart to the entire team at PRPC-HSE division. Your guidance and support have been invaluable, and I will forever cherish the moment. This internship has been a stepping stone, and I can't wait to see where this path leads, carrying the lessons I've learned with me every step of the way.

Here is a glance at some activities and tasks, I was involved in, on July 2024:
PROCESS SAFETY MANAGEMENT (PSM) ACTIVITIES
PSM team worked on the "Process Safety Management Campaign", emphasising on Hazard Effect Management (HEM) process, 12 process safety lessons, and Process Safety Site Observation (PS2O). The campaign was done variously including, PSM Mass ToolBoxTalk, PSM physical training and roadshow. To be honest, this is my first time getting to know about the 8 elements of process safety, as follows:
FIRE SAFETY ACTIVITIES
The Search & Rescue training scenario within a smokehouse aimed to ensure emergency preparedness for PRPC and PRPC UF operators at PIC, involving the rescue of an injured person from a confined space using Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Organized by the HSE division of PRPC and conducted by CEFS firefighters, this training emphasized critical rescue skills. Additionally, the fire safety team of HSE PRPC conducts a weekly PAGA test every Wednesday at 10:00 am to ensure the proper functioning of various alarm systems in specific buildings at PIC. Last but not least, the standdown would be conducted as a post-mortem and reflect every incident to avoid re-occurrence.
FATIGUE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (FMS)
The FMS was basically operated on the process area gate and was crucial, especially for shift operation workers. FMS aim to ensure the shift workers get adequate rest and not working for certain continuous hours, leading them to human error, such as misinterpretation and microsleep during working hours. Therefore, the FMS training pack was prepared by OH team to communicate with all shift operation workers, on the system, maximum working hours, steps to apply deviation, and investigation results of non-compliance.
FOOD & WATER SAFETY (FWS)
The Food and Water Safety (FWS) activities have primarily revolved around the meticulous inspection of external caterers typically engaged for company-organized events. These inspections included well-known establishments such as Westin, Four Points Sheraton, KOPEJA, and Delelalicious. The objective of these inspections was to ensure that all external food service providers adhere to the highest standards of food safety and hygiene, thereby safeguarding the health and well-being of all event participants. Our FWS inspection process involves a thorough evaluation of each caterer's food preparation practices, storage conditions, and sanitation protocols.
This comprehensive assessment is designed to identify potential hazards that could compromise food safety, such as cross-contamination, inadequate cooking temperatures, and improper food handling techniques. In addition to our routine FWS inspections, our team played a pivotal role in coordinating and managing the visit of health inspectors from the Ministry of Health. This visit was part of a broader regulatory compliance check to verify that the associated caterers are in full compliance with the food regulations.
TRAINING
The ABC training covered the characteristics and patterns of hearing impairment, noise-induced hearing loss, and standard threshold shifts in audiometric tests, as well as the principles of managing abnormal audiometry cases, including notifications to DOSH and PETRONAS. It also included strategies to improve compliance with regulatory requirements on annual audiometry and management of high-risk groups, aligning with ICOP 2019 guidelines.
Additionally, the internal audit training for ISO 14001 and 45001 provided comprehensive insights into auditing processes, preparation, and reporting, complementing previous OSHMS knowledge. Furthermore, the EMT training emphasized emergency crisis management using the Resiliency model's 3R cycle (Reduce, Respond, Recover) for business continuity, expanding on emergency preparedness and response concepts.

MEETING
The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) morning meeting, a regular fixture of our schedule, serves as a crucial platform for updating on weekly activities and addressing emerging issues within each section of the HSE division. These meetings are meticulously structured to ensure that every aspect of health, safety, and environmental concerns is thoroughly discussed and managed.
In addition to these routine updates, we convene a more extensive meeting that includes all stakeholders involved in Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health from the various operating units and contractors associated with our operations. This broader assembly allows for a comprehensive review of ongoing initiatives and action items, fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge and best practices are shared. During these meetings, detailed reports on the progress of various projects are presented, highlighting both achievements and areas needing improvement.
TALK
During the ergonomics talk, our lecturer, Professor Sam, provided a comprehensive introduction to the domains of Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE), which include Physical, Cognitive, and Organizational aspects. He elaborated on how each domain impacts worker safety and efficiency. He discussed various types of human errors that arise due to ergonomics concerns, such as improper posture, repetitive motion, and inadequate workplace design, and how these errors can lead to significant safety risks and decreased productivity. Additionally, he highlighted strategies for mitigating these errors through ergonomic interventions and best practices in workplace design.
The "Line of Fire Talk" further expanded on safety concerns by detailing several types of hazards and risks that workers may encounter in their daily tasks. This talk focused on the concept of "line of fire" hazards, where workers are positioned in the path of potential dangers, such as moving machinery, falling objects, or hazardous materials. The session also addressed common incidents like slips, trips, and falls, explaining their causes and providing practical measures to prevent such occurrences. By understanding these hazards and implementing preventive strategies, workers can reduce their exposure to risks and enhance overall workplace safety.
MEDIA
The HSE Integrity video was prepared by GEES and an intern in the HSE division for competition purposes, which taught us to strengthen our teamwork as well as sharpen our creativity to create a storyline, script, edit and liaise with the superior. Apart from making videos, I was also involved in making several posters, for instance, "World Donor Day 2024" and some more. Lastly, I have prepared the pack related to the health surveillance program, prior to the communication among all the required workers in PIC.
This invaluable lesson I learned from the incredible team at my internship have truly enriched my experience. ??
" Keep going, you did come this far, to just come this far, because life such endless road ". Let's strive together unlock the doors and widen our knowledge.
