Sumanahalli: A Village of People with Good Hearts

Sumanahalli: A Village of People with Good Hearts

Last Sunday (17th Nov 2024), I had the privilege of visiting Sumanahalli, a center that provides residential care for some of the most vulnerable individuals in our society — those who are often rejected and forgotten by both society and their own families.

At Sumanahalli, I met individuals living with HIV, leprosy, disabilities, and even orphans.

One man, a father of two, contracted HIV and lost his sight during treatment. Now, his wife and children have abandoned him, deeming him "no longer productive." I also met a woman, a postgraduate, who, despite her qualifications, faces rejection due to her HIV status.

Despite these challenges, Sumanahalli offers these individuals a life filled with dignity, care, and hope.

It’s important to remember that none of us choose our circumstances — our lives, our families, even our names. If someone around us is struggling, it's our responsibility to offer a helping hand and support them.

Mr. Ratan Tata has shown us how a successful business leader can become a beacon of hope for the hopeless in society.

I’m not promoting any particular organization here, but rather encouraging all of us to reflect on those in our community who need care, compassion, and support.
