As you may be aware a new European Union environmentally friendly directive means that ferry operators must meet more stringent limits for Sulphur emissions for ships operating in Emission Control Areas.
From 1 January 2020, Irish Sea vessels will operate within Emission Control Areas.
To comply, all ferry operators can either run their ships on more expensive low Sulphur alternatives or invest in Sulphur scrubbers to reduce the Sulphur emissions to the new low level of 0.5 percent.
From 1 January 2020, Irish Sea Ferries will be introducing a new fuel surcharge on all freight accounts. These additional costs to us need to be reflected in our prices to our customers
