The suitable for apparel use, Nylon 6 or Nylon 66 Fabric

Nylon 6- Nylon 6 is made from a caprolactam monomer having six carbon atoms. Hence, the name Nylon 6.

Nylon 6,6 : Nylon 6,6 is comprised of two monomers, Hexamethylenediamine, and adipic acid, each providing six carbon atoms. Hence, the name Nylon 6,6.

Nylon 6 and nylon 66 are different types of nylon textiles that have different chemical structures and properties:

  • Chemical structure Nylon 6 is made from one monomer with six carbon atoms, while nylon 66 is made from two monomers, each with six carbon atoms.
  • Properties Nylon 6 fibers are tough, elastic, and lustrous, and they resist wrinkles, abrasion, and chemicals. They can absorb up to 2.4% of water, but this can reduce their tensile strength. Nylon 66 is stiff and has high tensile and flexural strength, as well as good heat deflection temperature and resistance to abrasion and wear.
  • Uses Nylon 6 is used in many textile applications, including apparel, hosiery, upholstery, seat belts, and parachutes. It's also used to make home furnishings like carpets, curtains, and bedspreads. Nylon 66 is used in many industrial applications, including conveyor belts, hoses, seals, gaskets, bearings, and industrial machinery components and tools. It's also used in automotive airbags, tire cords, and friction

The fibres of nylon 66 are 33% more resistant to abrasion than nylon 6, withstanding up to 60,000 cycles compared to 40,000 in the case of nylon 6. With low creep, and more crystallinity, nylon 66 is slightly more rigid, allowing good stretch recovery and higher abrasion resistance.
