'No Sugar Coating', Analysis of Bengaluru PG Crime.

****Trigger Warning****

The article talks about crime in its most brutal form. If you can't read about this, you are probably one who can't even secure and defend yourself if such were to happen to you. So, reading this article and the others mentioned could be your first step to taking your personal security and safety seriously. Not to forget - facing the brutal reality.

I suggest reading these articles (in their order) only after you have read this one completely. You can read them only if you care ENOUGH about yourself and your loved ones. By the time you have read all of these 6 articles, you'll have enough clarity of thought to decide for yourself and your loved ones what you and they must do to stay secure and safe.

  1. Violence, It's Here to Stay.
  2. Women Safety, A Ghost?
  3. #NotAllWomen
  4. Can You Secure Yourself?
  5. Building India's Security Culture

What was this guy doing in her PG?

Over 95% of rapists and abusers (murderers in this case) happen to be from the close circle of their victims. It's an NCRB fact; Denial is useless to me or my point. There is also enough evidence (and reference in the articles shared above) that before the crime can get brutal, there are enough PRE-CRIME INDICATORS that allow someone with a #SecurityCulture to be able to identify and predict a higher degree of crime to hit them sooner or later. Why victims still become victims is because of 2 primary reasons.

  1. They do not know what to do with the evidence of the escalated degree of crime to come. Due to the lack of security culture, they experience brain fog and freeze in their thinking. Their fear is overwhelming enough to get them to shut up to the world and not speak about it. By now, they are probably distanced from those who can help them (primarily because of the warnings they ignored from their well-wishers about their relationship with the perpetrator).
  2. Because they now have evidence and don't know what to do with it, the easy way out is to convince themselves that nothing of that escalated degree to crime will happen to them. It's a classic case of #DENIAL.

All victims of crime and abuse had something in common. They all believed that - It Won't Happen To Me.
Igonorance is DANGEROUS. Denial is FATAL. #ExCivilian

If we compare this attack to an academic exam, ask whether she was prepared for it; what would your answer be?

If I were in her place (as a male) in this very situation a decade back, I'd be dead as well. Anyone, man or woman UNPREPARED and in Denial, will meet the same fate. But having trained many women & men in the last many years on evading such situations, I know this was a situation where one could come out alive. This can only happen when you know that someday you will face this exam, and you invest your time and money in preparing for it so you can be victorious. Here, victorious doesn't necessarily mean getting into a fight scene with the criminal. It could be that your Thoughts, feelings, or Actions from a well-developed security culture Result in you successfully DISQUALIFYING yourself as a prospective victim.

The closest and the most reliable first responder to you, is YOURSELF. Make sure you have invested some time and money into building yourself strong and resiliant against criminals and radicals.

Bengaluru PG Murder: Woman Seen Screaming For Help, None To Her Rescue

Returning to the first pic, this heading can make sense of its relation. But here in the above pic, we have 3 women in here. If you've seen the video, NONE OF THEM even go near the victim and try to help her stop the bleeding. By assisting to stop the bleeding, many lives have been saved. MAYBE, just MAYBE, this victim could also have been saved. Sometimes, a dying person needs a comforting voice telling them to hold on. To reduce their BP, that impacts the flushing of the blood out of the wound and stay alive. Ask any army personnel, and they'll tell you how important it is to keep telling the wounded that they will live and everything will be fine. The wounded need to be distracted from their fear and anxiety.

Such a response is also part of being Security Cultured. But sadly, we feel we don't need it. Not only do we feel WE don't need it, but we also deny the greater good having such a culture can do for those around us. You'd rather be alone on an island than have such security uncultured people around. You now have an activated SOS system that can call emergency services. What good are we as human beings if we can't respond to help our fellows in such situations?

Can You Secure Yourself?

Your answer will not make any difference to me, your friends, your neighbours, or the country. But the answer and the action you take will hugely impact you and your confidence in living your life without fear of becoming a victim of any maliciousness in thought or Action.

And so I wish you wisdom. I sincerely hope you read through the other 5 articles I have shared above in the order mentioned. It's for your benefit.

Gratitude for voicing out on what matters. Empathy is what's mostly missing, even in this case if the onlookers would have tried doing something. Creating awareness is crucial #TogetherWeCan

Dear CR, Nicely articulated. I had been staying in Bengaluru. I must tell you that despite the city offers a very good ecosystem wrto women safety but there are dark zones too. One has to learn how to defend from those. Best Regards,

Well written and Analysed. It's a pity that people don't take personal security seriously.
