Suddenly, Guinness is everywhere

Having won the prize of most popular?pint in the UK in 2023, it just feels like this unique drink is having a moment popping up here, there and everywhere.?

And it's not just because of the Irish 6 Nations win and Paddy's Day Celebrations at the weekend (although I'm sure their sales were absolutely through the roof) - it feels more like the dial has been and is firmly shifting away from say the craft beer movement over to the stout movement for the past few years.?

So is this just a new wave of people loving/discovering/reappraising the product by now dubbed 'Guinnfluencers'? - yes it's a thing!?

Or is it being driven by some seriously clever new age social media product?placement ninja marketing from the Guinness team? The product seems to be all over online media at the?moment with?placements in so many places.?

Take this paid partnership from Guinness with popular Instagram meme/mental health page Sunday Scaries?yesterday - clever!

And this?piece from The Times sums up nicely the growth of the appeal - Move over Rugby Lads, Guinness is for everyone now.?

It's also no coincidence all?the Irish actors and singers are firmly having a moment and helping fuel the Guinness obsession - as seen in Ms Dimoldenberg's?latest Chicken Shop Date date?here?with actor Paul Mescal.

Plus notably Gaelic is making a return to the mainstream conversation with winning Irish actors using it to pick up their recent Oscar and BAFTA awards over the past couple of weeks - read more in this Guardian piece.

Or maybe, like a lot of things, it all started with Kim K and her London?bar crawl back in October last year - (complete with a Baby Guinness - which is also having a resurgence for Baileys and Tia Maria/Kahula brands).

Or perhaps it's just the fact everyone is using it as a prop in their content as?it?is now cool? TV personality Zack from The Traitors used it in his content?in the run up to?that TV show?finale.

But whatever is driving it, I am here for it. And of course, trust the brilliant?Real Housewives of Clapton to summarise the drink's greatness this past St Patrick's weekend with their always spot on meme posts.

What may be helping is the trend towards nostalgic and heritage brands in uncertain times. When the future is more unknown or even looks scary, people can turn to brands of the past for comfort and fond memories of the ‘good old days.’ It used to benefit whisky brands I worked on.
