Suchana Seth found mentally fit by GMC Report

Panaji: In a recent development regarding the tragic incident involving Bengaluru-based data scientist Suchana Seth, the Goa Medical College (GMC) has issued a report that she is not suffering from any mental problems. Seth, who allegedly killed her four-year-old son in Candoli earlier this year, has been under intense scrutiny and legal proceedings since the incident.

The GMC report comes after a thorough examination of Seth's mental health, including digital electroencephalogram (EEG) tests. Dr. Shilpa Dessai, a clinical neurophysiologist involved in the review, said: "The insomnia and sleepiness record does not show any focal or generalized epileptiform discharges."

Previously, Seth's father applied for her mental health assessment, which led to a GMC investigation. This examination was part of the legal process following Seth's alleged actions on January 7 when she allegedly killed her son and tried to take his body to Bengaluru.

After the incident, Seth was arrested by the authorities before reaching her intended destination. Subsequent investigations and legal proceedings are ongoing, and the Goa police have filed a lengthy 642-page charge sheet against Seth in connection with the alleged murder.

The children's court where the case is being heard has previously granted Seth's father's request for a mental health assessment. However, the GMC report has now confirmed that Seth does not show signs of mental illness.

An earlier assessment by the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior (IPHB) also indicated no stress-related illnesses or mental health problems. The team of doctors who examined Seth found her responses to be coherent and devoid of any signs of pressure or stress-related conditions.

In light of the GMC's report, which is consistent with previous assessments, the court proceedings surrounding Suchana Seth's case are expected to continue. Seth is currently in judicial custody awaiting further proceedings.

The tragic event shocked the community and sparked discussions about mental health awareness and support systems for individuals facing emotional distress. Throughout the trial, Suchana Seth's case serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities of mental health and its intersection with the justice system.
