Successfully Running a YOU-niverse

One of the biggest challenges you will run into if you are an entrepreneur, is determining where and how to invest your time and energy. If you are like most, you don't feel like you have many options because you are so busy working, you move in the direction created by the greatest demand. One day, that might mean resolving a customer issue, another day it might be working on closing the next biggest deal, and yet it might also mean cleaning the conference room table because a client is coming in for a visit. Regardless of opportunity, problem or operation that needs to be handled, it will sometimes feel like you are jumping through hoops while spinning plates.

For many entrepreneurs there is an internal struggle whether to work on or in the business. Running the business (your YOU-niverse), creates just as many challenges as opportunities. Operations, sales, accounting, marketing, research & development, product support and many other responsibilities are thrust upon you on a daily basis. The question remains, what is best for the growth and success of your business?

To do or not to do, what does your future hold? If it's not in your power zone, delegate the task to someone else. Keep in mind if you are not good at something and you never want to be, fire yourself and hire someone for the task. For example, if social media is not a strength, hire a social media marketing consultant to to boost your message. Don't have any money, do what I did, contact a local college or search on LinkedIn for an intern. Another piece of advice is to barter service for service. What do you offer that would provide value to someone that has something of value to offer you?

What do you see when you look back from the future? Take a look at your industry. There are probably dozens, if not hundreds, of people that have been doing what you are doing much long than you. Drop them an email or make a phone call to a handful of experts in your industry. Be humble enough to ask for their advice. Sure, many will ignore your emails or calls, but a few will respond and will be glad to help you. Ask for their advice. Find out what worked well for them. See what action steps they took. Let them share their story and see if there are some similarities. Heed their advice, respect their time.

Do you act like the future is yours to create? In order to be successful, you must see yourself as a success waiting to happen. Even when your income from your business is low or non-existent, there is still huge growth taking place. Never stop growing your network, building your expertise, creating great relationships and maintaining a positive attitude. And as I continue to share with each keynote I deliver and podcast I share, never underestimate the power of NICE. Nice is profitable, very profitable.
