Successful Paper: The Digital Twin in the Network and Electricity Industry

Many people today have the impression that the long and sometimes tedious years of writing papers have little influence on the future – here I will show you a counterexample!
Since, as explained in the VDE paper "Digital Twin in the Grid and Energy Industry", time is pressing, we decided to implement the findings and solutions in prototypes and pilot projects in an agile manner right from the beginning of the working group. I am very proud that after a very short time, we can now present the finished solution modules from these components developed ?during the working group at the IEEE Conference in Anaheim, California (May 6 to May 9).
?
Of course, we didn't start from scratch, we had to make minor and sometimes major adjustments to some components, but to other components, such as the “primtech VR client”, which had been under development for years, we gave a completely new direction through the working group.
As developers of a Substation BIM Solution (#primtech), we have set ourselves the following work packages from the tasks of the working group:
?
1.????? Interfaces from the BIM-DB to type-, instance-databases and services such as ERP systems, Asset-Management-Systems and sensor data:
-> These interfaces were largely available, but had to be adapted for new environments (e.g. VR-Glasses, tablets,).

2.????? Digital inventory for high-voltage switchgear :
-> Here, too, we were able to fall back on long-proven technology (primtech OSR). However, due to the need at DSO/TSO to make the digital twin available to all substations in duty ?- in a extreme short time, there was a need to massively accelerate the process of digitization and data validation – the team has impressively succeeded in doing so!
?
3.????? Demonstrator of the results In the working group:
-> We already visualized examples and ideas with our VR-Client at the time. This project has now grown into a whole new category of software (the missing link). You can be curious – we have also come up with something quite unusual for the roll-out.

Come to the IEEE in Anaheim or to the CIGE in Paris in August and let us convince you how easy it can be to work properly!
