Successful Habits

Successful Habits

I hope this article provides inspiration or insights to help your realise your own potential so you too can operate a broking practice that provides you ongoing professional and personal reward.

……………………………………

A while back I had the opportunity to work with a fantastic person.

With a heart of gold, he wanted to make a profound difference – to his clients and to society more broadly.? He vehemently believed improving a client’s financial wellbeing created better & more life options for them.

Yet, despite these intentions, his actual business results were underwhelming.

Though he was an experienced broker and ‘knew’ what to do, his mind found a way to ‘self-sabotage’ so his actual volumes were far below what he was capable of.

Instead of ‘making calls’, he would ‘shuffle files’.? Instead of ‘follow up old leads’, he would ‘read a new lender policy’, and so on.

Over time, unknowingly and unintentionally, he created some habits that were un-resourceful and ineffective.? They were his mind’s way of keeping him safe with what was familiar.

The trade-off though was compromising with poor results.

Then the tipping point came when poor results were no longer tolerable.? His need to improve things was greater than the need to stay the same.

So, what to do with someone who already knows how to write a loan, how to sell, how to communicate effectively and who had previously run a very successful business??

You focus on small changes that impact the daily actions.? It’s not profound change, it’s small.? The results however, can still be massive.

And to be fair, the focus wasn’t on cultivating successful habits.? The focus was on doing some simple, repeatable actions on a consistent basis.??

The result of this activity was that habits were formed over a period of time.

More appointments were booked, more submissions put through, and more settlement achieved – and in doing so, he was now actually doing the thing he yearned for – helping more people.

For many people, their mind tricks them with actions that keep them safe but don’t shift the needle.? They tolerate and compromise on results in business and in life, which has both a ‘payoff’ and an ‘impact’ to them.?

Here’s the kicker though.? Success is often CLOSER than you think.??

A habit you’ll notice amongst people we tend to admire, be them great brokers, sportspeople or otherwise is their ability to stay focused and apply themselves to the disciplines that produce the results.? They may not always want to do these things, but therein lies the difference between success and ‘almost’.??

So for you, consider if there’s something you could do to shift the needle just one degree.? It might seem a little today, but when you extrapolate it out, it can make all the difference you need.

Carpe diem.? May today be just 1% better than yesterday.

And if you’d like to reply and let me know what your one percenter is going to be, would love to hear.

To your success,

James.

Great advice, my 1% change will be to do the calls and meaningful big things early in the day... stop putting them off

Great article James McCracken - Broker Growth Strategist . There has been so much valuable advice coming from this thought process of late - showing the value of small incremental changes. Whether it be sporting or business analogies, a 1% change of course over a long period of time can see you reaching your goals (or spinning off to Pluto). Timely education and reminders. Well done ?? ??
