Successful GTT Model Implementation for CARO ASBN

Successful GTT Model Implementation for CARO ASBN

A deep dive into how GTT Modelling works and why it is an effective strategy for local authorities and decarbonisation targets.

Achieving environmental sustainability and climate objectives is a tough mandate. This case study explores how CARO ASBN implemented the GTT modelling, how it works and the significant impact it has made towards reaching CAP targets. The success experienced by the 5 CARO ASBN councils could easily be replicated accross the country.

Background: Collaboration and Challenge

Plan Energy partnered with CARO Atlantic Seaboard North's local authorities, each facing unique energy management and greenhouse gas reduction challenges. The authority’s target is a 51% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030 (based on 2016-2018 levels) and aim for a 50% improvement in energy efficiency (2009 baseline) with a net-zero energy-related emissions target by 2050 at the latest.

The GTT Model is a comprehensive tool for analysing and forecasting energy consumption and GHG emissions. We leveraged it to create tailored roadmaps for each local authority, identifying key measures for energy efficiency enhancement.

?GTT Tool in Action

The GTT tool offers modelled scenarios showing baseline GHG emissions and projected reductions, aligning with the 2030 target and EU goals.

Non-Electricity Targets Pathway

It also includes scenarios for non-electricity targets, demonstrating pathway compliance up to 2030 and 2050.

Significant Results & Impact

  • Implementation across all five local authorities in the Atlantic Seaboard North Energy Bureau, aiding in planning and executing projects for 2030 climate goals and Net Zero by 2050.
  • Significant Energy Users (SEUs) identified for targeted improvements through the GTT tool and energy management systems.
  • Projects for decarbonisation across common SEUs, including leisure centres, main offices, fire stations, and vehicle fleets, were identified.
  • Significant reduction in carbon emissions through focused renewable energy and energy-saving investments.
  • Enhanced local authority engagement in sustainability, with the GTT tool integral to Energy Team discussions.
  • Detailed roadmaps provided by the GTT tool for senior management, aiding in decision-making and funding of capital projects targeting major carbon emitters.
  • Capital projects focused on retrofit decarbonisation works and initiatives impacting emission reduction targets.

"Plan Energy's strategic guidance has significantly accelerated our progress towards developing a pathway to achieving our 2030 climate action targets"?

Broader Applications

The GTT tool benefits various Local Authority members, supported by senior management energy teams, including Energy Performance Officers, senior engineers, and staff from facilities, climate action, and environmental departments.

Internal Information Sharing

We recommend regular briefings and workshops on the GTT model, creating accessible reports and infographics, and utilising internal channels to share success stories.

Invitation to Collaborate

We invite other local authorities to join our mission of building sustainable, net zero communities. For more information, contact Michael O'Brien, [email protected].

“Our work with the CARO Atlantic Seaboard North local authorities highlights the impact of collaborative efforts and innovative tools in sustainable energy management. We look forward to replicating this success with others.”

In Summary there are 7 Key Benefits of the GTT Tool:

  1. Performance Assessment: Evaluate current energy efficiency and GHG emissions.
  2. 2030 Target Tracking: Monitor progress towards energy efficiency goals.
  3. Scenario Analysis: Simulate different improvement plans.
  4. Compliance Assurance: Align with SEAI guidelines.
  5. Resource Optimisation: Effectively allocate resources for cost savings.
  6. Climate Responsibility: Support carbon reduction and climate action.
  7. Transparent Reporting: Improve accountability with clear energy and emissions data.orities to join our mission of building sustainable communities.
