Successful careers fair returns to Rotherham

The Local Employment Advisory Forum (LEAF), now in its 11th year, returns Magna Science Adventure Centre on Monday 6 November.

The event is Rotherham’s annual jobs and careers fair, developed as a partnership project between Mears Group, the Department for Work and Pensions, and Rotherham Investment & Development Office.

As part of the event, visitors will have the opportunity to talk to almost 60 exhibitors about current and upcoming vacancies, as well as volunteering. The day will include a variety of workshops for young people, including apprenticeship workshops and a Dragon’s Den workshop.

The Dragons’ Den workshop will give local students the opportunity to become the ‘Dragons’ and question a panel of business volunteers about their industry and careers.

Diane Keay at Mears said: “Following last years’ success, with more than 600 people attending the event including students from 16 different schools, LEAF is becoming more than just one event. It has developed into an excellent example of collaboration between industry partners, schools, colleges, and non-profit organisations with a common goal.

“We are proud to be leading by example when it comes to bringing employment opportunities to the Rotherham community.”

Mears is one of the UK’s leading housing solutions providers to both the public and private sector. With more than 5,400 employees, the company works with local communities to develop, fund, and implement innovative housing solutions.

In June 2023, Mears also became a diamond partner for local football club Rotherham United, supporting fundraising efforts for the Rotherham Hospice.

The event is scheduled to take place in the Great Hall at the Magna Science Adventure Centre, between 9am and 2pm on Monday 9 November.
