This months topic is 'synergy' I will be looking at how different parts in a business work together in order to create a greater success. For this week I focus on 'Team'.

No matter the size, or the industry, ALL businesses have at least one thing in common: people!

It is the individual people within the business, 'the team', that can quite simply dictate how successful the business becomes.?

Everyones team will look different. You may have a small or large team, you may have employed members, subies or contractors. You may even be a sole trader in which case your team are those other businesses you work alongside or buy from.?

It doesn't matter what you team looks like, it is still a team.

How all these individuals work together, and also alone, can have a big impact on your businesses over all success, yet many companies fall down when it comes to recognising the individuals that make up their business and this can be a big mistake!

This week we take a closer look at the individuals that make up our team covering;

  • How to get the most out of your team meetings - The L.I.O.N method
  • A Book Recommendation To Support With Your Goal Planning?
  • Skills Vs Values - A task to help you better manage the individuals that make up your team.

Enjoy :)

How to get the most out of your team meetings in 4 simple steps - The L.I.O.N method

Effective leadership and good communication are key to a successful team, but it’s so easy for the day-to-day to get in the way.

The thing is a team meeting doesn't have to take place around a conference table, now a days it doesn't even require everyone to physically be together. What does matter is that they take place. So, whether your meetings are on zoom, in the office or on a construction site sat it really doesn't matter. All that matters is that you are holding regular meetings with the people that make up your team.?

Why hold a team meeting?

Regular meetings allow you to stay in touch with your team, ensure everyone is working towards the same goals and to reaffirm what is expected, both on an ividual level and as a team. It’s also a great opportunity to give praise where it’s due.. Without them it is easy for people to feel unappreicated and for small issues to escalate and ultimately impact the success of both the individuals in the team and the business as a whole.?

Once you have the team together it then comes down to the running of the meeting. Without an effective structure, team meetings can quickly go off track and time can become wasted.?

If you want to avoid this, and make your team meeting count, then it's time to start using the L.I.O.N format.?

With just four easy steps, this simple format will give you control of the session and maximise the benefits of holding a team meeting for all involved.?

BOOKS recommendation:

The 5 Dysfunctions Of A Team by: Patrick Lencioni

“If you could get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any time.”

Those are bold words, spoken by the founder of a company that grew to over a billion dollars in annual revenue.

Like anything worth achieving in life, this is easier said that done. Especially because teams are made up of human beings – the most complicated and dysfunctional organisms on the planet.

Although all teams are different, they tend to encounter the same issues over and over again. These are what Patrick Lencioni – the author of the book – calls the 5 Dysfunctions of a Team.

These are the root causes of all the problems you face as a leader in getting the team to row in the same direction.

If you want to become a better leader by support the individuals that make up your team and ultimately, by doing so, increase the success of your business then this is certainly a book you should be reading.

Patrick highlights what he beleives are the 5 problems that all teams/ individuals face and provides practical and successful ways of overcoming them.

?I have written a book review that highlights the 5 dysfunctions and will give you a snapshot of what the book entails so you can now even try before you buy :)

It only takes one person to impact an entire group of people so this values Vs skills activity is a great tool for helping you to understand where the individuals in your team fit and how you can manage them more effectively. It is also a great tool to use if you're currently recruiting as it will remind you of the importance of value matching and teach you NOT to just hire based on skill.?

Take the time to complete this thoroughly and use this as a chance to speak to the individuals that make up your team, you may find that you have some hidden gems that with a little nurture could become a real asset to you.

Putting time aside to speak to the people in your team alongside carrying out this activty could help you solve underlying problems that when nipped in the bud can be easily resolved helping you to avoid larger issues further down the line.?
