What are your educational qualifications?

I have completed a Bachelor of dental surgery from Nair Hospital & Dental College Mumbai. Additionally, I am certified Six Sigma - Green Belt.

What is your current job role?

I am working as Team Manager for the Clinical Support Solutions quality team. While managing the team of 15-20 auditors, I provide meaningful insights for improvement of the quality of the process. I work on quality improvement initiatives & projects. Data analysis, optimization of workflows, automation of tasks, problem solving & decision making are the competencies I use often to perform my duties.

What inspired you to choose a different route as compared to other medical graduates???

After completion of BDS, I worked for clinics & hospitals. However, I experienced that I could not maintain work life balance working in two shifts a day. So I explored different options in the health industry. I felt the corporate health sector was the perfect career option for me.

How do you feel about your current job? Would you recommend this option to other medical graduates/professionals?

I? am excited about my current job as Team Manager. I work 5 days a week and I am able to take leaves as per my requirement & leave policy. I would like to recommend this opportunity for medical graduates who are interested in non clinical roles that offer work-life balance.

Do you feel that your medical education background is being utilized well in your current job role? Do you get the opportunity to practically apply the knowledge you have gained through your medical background??

Of course! My medical education is helping me understand, interpret clinical reports and accurately communicate clinical conditions & diagnosis with stakeholders. Clinical knowledge is applicable in abstraction of clinical data.

Any advice you may have for medical graduates on their possible career options.

Once students complete their medical degree, they have two major career options - clinical and non-clinical. Digitization of healthcare facilities have brought tremendous opportunities in the corporate health sector across the globe. Medical graduates should explore these options and grab the right opportunity which will help them accomplish their career goal.?

Congrats Dr Uttam
