Success... Now What?

Success is an amazing word, feeling, and opportunity to experience! Most of us are chasing it and on a continual uphill climb to achieve it. Regardless of our individual definition of success… we all have one. For some, it may be starting and maintaining your own business, promotions at work, earning a certain income, freedom of time, losing weight, etc. We also play a variety of roles… the successes just mentioned are about YOU and indirectly impact those you care about. My company, You Evolving Now, is all about EVOLVING in our 4 P’s… what is your definition of success as a Person, a Partner, Parent, and Professional? Think about this question… more importantly live your answer. We often discuss the grind and the climb, but once we make it up Success Mountain… Then what?

Many decide to relax and coast, but nothing stays the same for long… it’s either getting better or worse. Some get bored, depressed, lazy… and perhaps the success you dreamed of isn’t what you thought it would be or feel like. So, what the heck to do? Below are my 4 “Now Whats”. Enjoy!

Take Care of Who or What has taken care of you!

On our climb to success there have been many people who have supported your ascent; some directly, some indirectly, some positively, and some with their negativity and doubt. Your partner who supported, maybe not always liked… but supported your time away, your dedication to the grind, caring for the things you didn’t make and take the time to do. Your kids who missed you and watch you choose your grind and definition of success over their play time, sporting games, etc. I could go on… but you get where I’m going! I equate it to our car… our car is our everything and without it…  we’d struggle to get to work and places you enjoy. If we don’t put gas in it and at the least the basic regular oil changes… our car will stop, our life will get WAY more difficult, and we only have ourselves to blame! Be sure to take care of who or what has taken care of you during and after your climb of Success Mountain! What does take care mean? Tip: Marry what you’d like to do for them with what they actually want and need from you!

Expand Your Vision and Your Craft!

You’ve made to the top of your Success Mountain… for sure… the view has expanded and broadened… has your vision? The vision climbing uphill may have been very singularly focused and full of grit. Becoming successful and staying successful are two different things and now that you have made it… I assume you’d like to keep it! The best way to do that is to continue learning your craft; whether your desired craft is as a business owner, boss, parent, partner, etc. Learn more about it! Be curious about your passion and the people involved in it and how to best move forward.

We must expand our knowledge and work to anticipate what the upcoming changes and plan of how to best prepare and adjust. Example: you have been successful in business, but the trend is changing and what was working before will not provide the same results in the future… get ahead of this or become Blockbuster Video! Your kids are becoming teenagers or preparing to leave the house… now what? You made it in your business and finally reached your desired numbers… what’s your plan?

One way to ensure the expansion of our vision and craft is to reach out and connect with like-minded leaders with the same grit and passion as you. It’s not necessary they be in the same line of work… just the same type of passion, grit, and onward march towards success. When you are with them and leave them (whether a call, video meeting, or in person)… do you feel motivated, inspired, excited, and filled with vision and new ideas? If yes… that’s expansion and the people to be sure to spend more time with. If not… it’s time to add to your team! If the excuse is, “I don’t know of anyone like that”, that’s what networking and social media are for. Join networking groups in and outside of your immediate area and follow inspirational and success people or groups via LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram… reach out, comment, and connect. You’d be surprised what will happen!

The Behind the Scenes Grind!

Very few people will ever fully see or respect what it took for you to accomplish your definition of success or the success in your 4 P’s: the late nights, the arguments, exhaustion, the joy, and sometimes despair. The grind it took for you to achieve your initial success must continue… however, it may look different. Perhaps in developing new people… new hires, grandchildren, new content, consulting, etc. all with the purpose of maintaining your success, legacy, and on-going inspiration and EVOLUTION… but climbing Success Mountain has taught you that you can’t do it all alone!  The fact you chose to grind up your Success Mountain says a lot about you and it’s unlikely you are the type to relax for too long… enjoy the view, celebrate your success, and set a new goal!

Self-Care!

For many Success Mountain Climbers… self-care doesn’t come easy! You may rest when you absolutely know you need to or we crash because our minds and body and shot. Self-Care is essential to us living our best and most EVOLVED lifestyle. Create time for health and wellness whether its gym time, yoga, a walk, etc… allow time for YOU. There’s no sense in being successful if you are at constant threat of dying of a heart attack, neglecting loved-ones, or engaging in addiction to decompress! Make Time & Take Time to be with friends. Remember those people? Those people who enjoy you for YOU… not your success! Put them in your schedule just like your success has been put in your schedule! Give yourself permission to chill… guilt free! You have worked this hard and climbed Success Mountain to be able to have freedom of time… enjoy it! My wife was recently home from work sick. As she laid in the bed… I was honored to be able to care for her. As I worked from my home office, I ventured upstairs to check on her and said to myself… I have worked this hard and created a work lifestyle for myself that I can lay with her and watch a movies mid-day. If I were and employee and someone said, “Want to watch this movie with me and it’s ok with the boss”… I’d jump at the chance. So why not? Make yourself and those who have taken care of you more of a priority and give yourself permission to take advantage of the success you’ve created!
