Success looks different for me now...redefining success on my terms

Becoming my own boss is not what I thought it would be. I thought it would automatically give me the life of freedom, joy and peace I always craved… but it didn’t.

Why? Because it wasn’t the job, it was me.

I left Accenture as an overachieving Consulting Executive on the path to making partner and carried the same workaholism in to my business. Pulling all-nighters, taking on the most, doing the most. In fact, it was worse because it's MY bottom line. I cared more so I worked more.

The truth is, I was addicted to stress.

Being busy made me feel important and I wore my busyness as a badge of honor. I took pride in overcoming the struggle and defined my worth by my productivity and achievements.

Success for me, as it is for many of us in the western world, was defined by external factors.?

And, I believed it came solely from hard work.

"Nothing worth having comes easy" was the mantra I lived by.?

Success looks different for me now.

Determined to not be the burnt-out entrepreneur repeating the same mistakes of my past, I've spent the last several years studying the latest Science of Success, the Psychology of Peak Performance, the Brain Science of Stress and Happiness to really understand what it takes to sustain high levels of success for the long haul. ?

My research has revealed 3 truths:

?? TRUTH #1 We Must Redefine Success: Success is not just about accumulating wealth, or achieving milestones. Success is about fulfillment, it's about health as much as it's about wealth! And not just physical health but our mental health, the health of our relationships, the strength of our communities.

?? TRUTH #2 Peak Performance Requires? Balance: Most people think peak performance is about constantly pushing harder. True sustainable success is about our ability to balance stress and recovery.??

?? TRUTH #3 Peak Performance Doesn't Come from Hard Work, it Comes from Smart Habits: Success comes from having a Leadership Operating Model with a success mindset and consistent habits that fuel our focus and optimizes our energy as a time multiplier.?

Let me know in the comments below which of these you resonate with.

I've packaged these and other key learnings into our upcoming New Science of Success Masterclass that I'll be teaching in the coming weeks.?

If you find any of this interesting, I invite you join us.?

In this masterclass, you'll:?

  • Not only learn the new science of success that will help you achieve even higher levels of success,
  • You'll also learn new actionable strategies for managing stress so you can optimize your growth and performance as a leader?

??

Sky - all these truths are right on! My personal favorites are #1) We must redefine success & 3) Peak performance doesn't come from hard work, it comes from SMART habits. Its critical to understand that redefining success is key to one's own hero's journey. Self regulation and the ability to operate in our most beautiful state of being helps us fill the cups of others along the way. These are the type of skills many have to discover on their own through trials and tribulation and should be something that is taught more intentionally - which you are doing. Kudos to you and the work you are doing!

Sky Jarrett thank you. I had the opportunity to meet you at a Summit in Tampa and I must say you are awesome. Workaholic "guilty"! Looking forward to your masterclass on New Science of Success.
