Success. The Key to Happiness. NOT

Success. The Key to Happiness. NOT

I hope that surprises you. Why wouldn't it? We live in a world where success and happiness are intrinsically linked. We are bombarded with images of happy successful people. Yet one very important thing is overlooked. Each of us has a different definition of success and of happiness.

Let's use one of your greatest gifts for a moment. It's free and I KNOW you have it. Imagination. Consider you're rushing to a meeting. You have a great job and you're very 'successful' so you go to a lot of meetings. You maybe wearing really gorgeous very expensive heels with a stunning designer fitted dress and carrying the latest designer handbag crush on your arm. You've got a state of the art laptop inside that designer bag and today's 'must have' Iphone 8 attached to you so you can keep in touch with your team. YOU are the embodiment of success so you must be happy. Isn't this what you've been taught?

Now as your rushing to your meeting, you glance across the road and see a woman sitting in the park. Her hair's a bit scruffy. OMG, she has NO make-up on. She's barefoot. Are those denim shorts actually homemade cut offs? No sign of a laptop or designer handbag to carry it in. I believe she actually has a dog eared paperback in her hand. Poor thing. Clearly she can't afford to look as good as you. Is she unemployed or just poor? She can't have a good job because she's just sitting there reading.

Fleetingly you feel grateful that you're successful and happy and have a great job, that you earn enough money to pay for those shoes you need to wear to work so everyone can see how successful you are. Anyone can see you have money so it's clear you are HAPPY.

But...what if you're not? What if success/ money/ happiness don't quite feel the way you expected them too? Remember the scruffy unemployed woman you glanced at and felt sorry for? That may have been me. I was barefoot because I LOVE to feel the grass (or sand) beneath my feet. Those denim shorts. Yep- i did hack the legs off an old pair of jeans myself. I doubt they're the same length on both legs. I don't care. I'm too busy being carefree and rejoicing that I'm not hot or uncomfortable; that my feet don't hurt and I don't carry plasters or a blister stick. I'm too busy being grateful that I can choose to sit in the park in the sun and read my favourite book for the nth time.  I'm lost in the moment of NOW and counting my blessings; that I'm strong enough to be able to walk through the park. That sunshine is free and feeds my soul.

I arrange meetings in the park, by the canal or via Skype when they fit in with my plans for the day. I get to spend my time meeting amazing women who are ready to unleash their joy and take off their shoes. I get to meet women who are ready to own their power and their beauty. Women who have walked (fast) in their heels for way to long and are ready to slow down, be happy, support other women and find their passion.

I don't have a designer wardrobe. My current favourite handbag was given to me by a friend who was about to donate it to a charity shop. My laptop looks like a toy. I do not own a hairbrush and I cannot remember the last time I used my hairdryer or straighteners. I believe I am rich and abundant in all things because I choose to be happy. I appreciate everything I have in my life and I attract incredible people and opportunities into my life.

Are you ready to be barefoot, abundant, happy and stop rushing to 'bored' meetings? I'd LOVE to teach you how to step out of fear and into HAPPINESS and success the way I view it.

Your dream life awaits.

A very refreshing read. I firmly believe that we should define our own measure of success, based on what really matters to us on an intrinsic level and not on what the world or the media says it should be.
