Success isn't just about having a successful business

After taking a much-needed break and vacation with the family, I returned to the office this week ready to tackle 2020 head-on.
2019 was a big year for us. Our biggest yet!
One of the highlights was receiving the trailblazer of the year award and then to top that off, we found out we had climbed up to the 19th position on Australia's Top Young Entrepreneurs list.
It was a year of phenomenal business growth, and in 2020 we're on track to break records again, but this year, I want to focus on smashing some personal goals as well.
Here's why.
For me, success isn't just about having a successful business.
After spending some time in reflection, I've come to realise some of the personal sacrifices I've made to ensure the success of our business. So this year, I've set the intention to make more time for my personal development and family.
I am writing this blog to keep myself accountable, and I figure it will be much harder to hide from these 'bold declarations' when they are published and shared with thousands of people. I won't want to fail ( even though I always say, it's not failing its learning) because I am committed to showing up as my best self in 2020.
So for starters, I plan to reduce my working week down to four days. Which is realistic considering I've spent the past ten years scaling our business, and I've got a fantastic team that I can rely on to look after our clients.
I also plan to take at least one family vacation every three months to spend more quality time with my wife and kids. Coming back from our most recent vacation, I realise how important it is to take this time away as a family, to connect and make memories.
Then there are some physical challenges I've set for myself.
In March, I'll be competing in the Breca Swimrun event.
Breca is New Zealand's original Swimrun adventure through the rugged wilderness of the Southern Lakes District.
This tortuous event requires a high level of fitness, so I went back to training late last year at LA Nation in Sydney, and I am already feeling soo much better
After the Breca Swimrun, I've also committed myself to a Ju-Jitsu competition in July.
I can't believe it has been almost four years since I had my first amateur fight in the ring. Its something I've always wanted to do again, so this year I am making it happen.
Between prepping for Breca, Ju-Jitsu and running around after my kids, I'll probably end up in the best shape of my life, but I'm not just interested in looking or feeling fit, I want to continue working on my mindset too.
Last year I completed the Rising Kings Transformation experience (more on that later in another blog) and this year I plan to take on a monitorship role to help future participants reach their full potential in all areas of life.
In addition to my personal goals, we have some ambitious plans for Safetyline Jalousie this year, including an offshore fabrication facility in Asia, an exciting new product launch as well as an expansion into New Zealand.
The New Zealand business environment is similar to ours, and with no other product meeting our performance in their market, we're looking forward to setting up a sales team there in the months ahead.
Over the next year, I'll also continue to focus on securing additional partnerships for Safetyline Jalousie, like our most recent partnership with Darley Aluminum.
Then there's the continued pursuit for improving compliance standards in the construction industry. Last year, I made my first submission to the NSW Government to improve legislation to make buildings safer, and in 2020, I plan to continue lobbying where I can.
So to sum this all up, 2020 is going to be one my most ambitious years yet. Between business and personal goals and a passion for improving the construction sector, its game on!
