To make a decision, or to not make a decision? Or should we say, to procrastinate, or not to procrastinate? Given the opportunity, what do you typically do – decide or procrastinate?
Studies have shown time and time again that the in ability (or unwillingness) to make a decision is the most common reason for failure. Analysis of several hundred people showed that all who achieved great financial success had the habit of reaching decisions promptly and changing those decisions slowly, if they changed them at all. The same study showed that those who didn’t achieve success all struggled to make decisions and would frequently change their minds once they did.
So what makes it easier for some people to make decisions and for others it can seem so hard? The simple answer is that being decisive comes with knowing what you want. Successful people in any walk of life achieve their success because they know what they want and consistently make the decisions that move them forward. The world has the habit of making room for the people that know what they want from life.
On the other hand, indecision is a habit commonly learned when someone is young and can last a lifetime, if they’re not careful. Can you change the habit of procrastination?
ABSOLUTELY!
How? By starting the process of making decisions. You can start on small things like – what to eat for dinner – and then work your way up to something bigger. As you progress to bigger decisions it will be easier for you once you clearly define what you want. Clarity in what you want from anything makes it easier and easier to make firm decisions.
That’s the process
- Define what you want
- Decide to take action
- Then actually take action
The process of becoming more decisive might take some time, but it will be worth it to you. If you are ready to learn more about being decisive, I would like to suggest studying an amazing book called Think and Grow Rich written by Napoleon Hill. Think and Grow Rich contains thirteen powerful success principles like “decision making” that can help you create the personal and professional success you desire. But you are going to have to DECIDE to start the process of growth,
If you’re concerned about how to get started, let me offer a suggestion. You might find it helpful to study material like this with a group of like-minded people that can help you understand, embrace and apply these principles. The real impact of this book came when I joined a study group led by a guy named Tim Burgess. He was doing a weekly conference call where we studied a chapter a week from Think and Grow Rich. That was over ten years ago.
Tim continues to lead a weekly study series on Think and Grow Rich. Today he calls the study series Think and Grow Rich Simplified. Tim has personally been studying this book every day for over twenty-four years and I can tell you that this material truly saved his life. To learn more about Tim’s story join him some Thursday at 9:00 PM (EST). This book has made such a massive impact on Tim’s life that he now has a passion for helping other people see the power of these principles.
