We all proclaim that letting go of habits is hard and one cant teach an old dog new tricks , but this lockdown has changed all that. People who could not stop eating out are eating home cooked meals. People who never lifted a finger to help , are doing the home chores without asking. So its not about habits but its about our thinking process, its about wanting to change.
So what made me write abot habits today – well yesterday I was asked which are those habits which are stopping me from achieving my vision of who I aspire to be & what winning habits do I need to develop to achieve my goals.
A question which I usually would have taken for granted somehow hit me yesterday on my head and made me list out all the bad habits I have – sorry for not sharing here as I’m still not ready to be vulnerable in public but enough to say that the self analysis acted as a catharsis for me.
So can I give up on these habits – yes , will it be easy – no , so how am I going to manage it.
Well the plan is to replace my killer habits with winning ones , plan is to change habits by reducing friction for winning habits and increasing it for the killer habits.
Now you may be wondering friction and habits – has she gone crazy – Nah , not yet ??
So here’s an example
A has a goal to lose weight and has wasted a lot of money on gym membership , but A realizes that the reason why she doesn’t go to gym is because it requires her to make a special trip to go home collect gym gear , and then go back to gym and exercise – solution get a personal trainer to come home ( personal trainer reduces friction by ensuring that the special effort required to go to gym is reduced) and you cannot say no to the personal trainer when he or she is ringing your bell . ( That A is me ;) )
Another thing that I intend to do is get accountability partner. Having an accountability partner ensures that I have someone who questions me when I don’t follow up on my promises and acts as my personal cheerleader when I hit my goals.
Once I'm more comfortable I intend to go public with the habits I intend to develop so that I will have the public perception pressure to deliver .
