Success depends on 8 things

Success depends on 8 things

I’ve been an entrepreneur for nearly 20 years. I’ve been thinking about and studying success as I define it for most of my life.

I’ve read 700 business-related books and have started and built 6 companies.

If I was forced to define a few points that success depends on, these would be them:

1) Being ambitious and pushing yourself to think bigger all the time. I’ve been guilty of thinking too small. I’ve only come to realize recently that pushing myself to think bigger, much bigger, is a key step toward what I’m trying to attain. Many people settle with what they think might be big or what they consider big at the time but it’s important to develop the mental exercise to think multiples bigger. It’s important not to limit yourself. You’re capable of a lot more than what you perhaps give yourself credit for. Push yourself and your thinking to a level that’s several times larger than what you currently think is big.

2) Deciding, cleanly on what your ambition is. What are you trying to achieve? Take the thought from point one and decide on that. Make the decision. “This is what I’m doing” — decisions are powerful. Commit mentally to your ambition.

3) Taking action to pursue your ambition. You have to work and do it at a ferocious level. Get going now. Move toward the ambition. Do things that lead to it. In other words, start.

4) Doing at extraordinary levels far above the amount thought or considered to attain it. This will take way more than you think or estimate. Massively overshoot. Do the work.

5) Having grit and consistency to never give up on the vision and ambition. See it through. Be relentless. Continue on the path toward the ambition no matter what. Don’t deviate and don’t throw in the towel.

6) Read, study, learn and do to level up your experience related to your ambition and attain greatness at that thing. Do everything to gain the 10,000 hours needed to attain greatness at your craft. Read books about it, take courses, MasterClass, listen to podcasts, take notes and get experience doing it.

7) Invest in yourself to help pave the way to greatness via physical, health, mental, knowledge, and spirituality. You are your greatest investment. Do everything to protect and improve your investment. Improve yourself physically to stay fit, take care of your health so you have the stamina and energy to produce, get sleep, take care of and improve your mind, gain knowledge and do things that enrich you spiritually.

8) Know yourself. Know your worth. Trust yourself. You have to know you better than anyone. You need to know your real worth so you can accept the amount you’re worth and you need to trust yourself utterly. No second-guessing. To know yourself, you’ll need to be your authentic self and not trying to be someone else. The best are always originals.

These are the key elements that come to mind when I think about what it takes to attain success in almost anything. I hope this helps and I wish you the success you’re striving for.
